Individuals have to make the choice to quit smoking. But it is their choice and their body. The health benefits of quitting are obvious ....

What a difference from GOD (duriantaste) postings (I mean belittling).

I would listen to you before listening to the ranting of GOD (duriantaste). What was your method and approach to quit smoking?

It was really just going to school and seeing the effects of smoking first-hand. I realized it would be really hypocritical of me to be in this career and encourage people to stop if I can't even do it myself. There are days when it's so tempting to pick up a cigarette, but I just stop myself! Goodluck! Remember: hydrate, hydrate and hydrate!

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

my husband is a smoker and I know first hand that trying to shame or guilt them into quitting is not going to work. They have to want to quit on their own. Cigarettes are very addicting so quitting is not very easy.

Quitting is easy. I quit lots of times. First, you stop buying. Then as you keep bumming cigarettes from your smoker friends, they start to avoid you. That kills two birds right there. Then it becomes a lot easier not to smoke. I also found when you are sick, and your taste buds are not working quite right, that is the best time to quit. The last time I quit was when you could no longer smoke in bars in California. That has kept me almost completely sober and smoke free for many years now.

my husband's problem is that he can't stop buying.. he will say this is his last pack but then the very next day he will go buy another one :P
