Hello All,

I hope this finds everyone well. My husband is a student here in America. We are in the process of AOS. We are currently waiting on a NOA1. Hopefully it will come soon. However, I am just wondering how the interviews went?(those that adjusted their status from F-1 to PR)

Were the staff very inquiziative? Me, I get nervous before i have to be interviewed for something. I feel like the world is on me and looking at me. My husband is usually the calm person.

I know they will want to see pictures and how we enteract with each other and families, and all that. Which I am prepared for. It's those questions. And me, I am the type of person that has the perfect thought in my head, but under pressure I botch it. My mouth gets dry etc....Can you say fear of public speaking. YES!

My husband is so not like that, Thanks to God.

Just any suggestions? Or stories of all the interviews went. All stories are helpful, especially if you have dealt with Memphis, TN USCIS office.

Yes, he is from Saudi Arabia.

Alhamdulillah!

I was born in and am from Pakistan, and am also a pious Muslim.

That makes me very nervous about interview.

Are they going to ask if we are Muslims?

Did any Muslim get AOS recently? What was it like?

Please post your experiences!

Well, there are some couples whom I know are muslims and there spouses received the greencard and citizenship. One associate i know who is muslim and, her husband who is muslim from North Africa, and he was illegal for over 6 years and alhamdulillah, their AOS seemed to have gone well. He's up for citizenship now alhamdulillah. insha'allah things will go well.

I am just looking for users of VJ who have had an AOS via F-1 Visa.

I'm sure they will know we are muslim since I observe the full hijab and my husband's name is soooooooooooooooo MUSLIM. no way around that.

Wishing you all the best.

I know someone who is Christian from Arabic country and also has a very Muslim Name.

Would he also presumed to be a Muslim by default, because of his Muslim name?

But my case and your case is more complicated , because we are actually Muslims, not just in name

but also in practice ( I eat only halal meat, my daughters already wear hijab and go to local madrasa which is a private school by the local mosque here and I will do my prayer even during the USCIS interview.

All this makes me very nervous.

Why would it be different? My husband and I are practing muslim and our child is muslim, and has a muslim name and practice Islam. We adhere to the rules and qualifications as of a muslim. The people I was referring to were also practing muslims with their child(ren)in Islamic Studies. I am sure background checks will be preformed more closely because we are muslim. However everything is by the qadr of Allah.

Being Muslim makes no difference. Get a grip. There are plenty of Muslims here who have been approved. Read through the interview reviews.

We don't say being Muslim makes a difference.

What we say is we are very nervous because we are practicing Muslims.

Those are two different things.

Being nervous about being a Muslim is not the same thing as being Muslim making a difference.

But in the end it very well may make a difference.

What if we, on the account of being Muslims, faint from our nervousness during an interview while answering to some relevant, crucial and important question?

What if IO asks: "What is your name?" and in response we say "My name is..." and start to convulse and shake uncontrollably and fall into coma? What will IO think?

IO will think we are hiding something, will get suspicious and so on.

This is just one possible scenario. There are infinite other possibilities.

So, while being Muslim by itself may not make any difference, being overly nervous on the account of being Muslim may very well have adverse consequences.

And just being a Muslim makes me extremely nervous.

When I walk on the street and see policeman I almost faint.

What will I do when in front of IO? How will I maintain my composure?

Oh, that dreary existence while being a Muslim.

Driving while intoxicated is nothing compared to existing while being a Muslim.

I will go cry now.

I would like to point out that if anyone started to convulse and shake uncontrollably and fell into a coma as a result of an IO asking them what their name is, I highly doubt that the first thing in the IOs (or anyone's) mind would be: "By George, he fell into a coma - he must be hiding something!"

This is a very very odd conversation. USCIS does not care what God you pray to.

Agreed wholeheartedly! I'm sure the IO would be too busy calling 911 to probably even recall what they had asked you.

Keep in mind there are also Muslim IOs. Not that you're guaranteed to get one, but they do exist!

Look this is my concern my above post. I do not care what the other poster is writing about. I know it's not concerning religion. I know it's a just a draw. If you have you things in order, then hope for the best. I am the original poster. This is what I am concerned about. He/she rob my thread. I am fully aware of my rights as a citizen. I am just wanting to know the experiences of those who went from a F-1 VISA through the AOS process. That is all i am seeking at this moment.

Thank you!!!!

Fully agree with the thread-stealing part.

I adjusted from an F1 visa, and had no issues whatsoever. The process took approximately 5 months from start to finish, 3 months for EAD and AP. Our interview was 15 minutes, very easy and straight-forward. If I remember correctly, the IO asked us each 2-3 questions, and that was it. She did not approve us on the spot, but it only took 2 days for me to get the approval email. On my GC, the "issued on" date is actually the date of the interview.

I would try to not stress over it too much. If your marriage is legitimate and you know each other, there really should not be anything to worry about. The questions are basic life things that any married couple should be able to answer, and even if you get some questions "wrong", it won't be the end of the world. We did prepare a bit with some of the sample questions that you can find here on VJ, but we would have been fine without preparing too. However,if you are stressed about the interview, then preparing and practicing might ease that stress a bit.

If you search for "F1 AOS" on VJ, you'll come up with a ton of AOS from F1 stories - most of them ending happily.

Okay. thank you so much. we married at city hall, no wedding. just me and him. our world is perfect when it's just me and him and my son. things get really complicated when involving family. so most of our photos are of me and him. or my son and him. not really of the extended family. so i was concerned cause we didn't have a wedding. thanks for your timeline and for your info. it's really appreciated.

I am sorry if I made you feel that way. But please be assured that it was not my intention to steal your thread.

I thought you are a practicing, sincere and pious Muslim who naturally has the same anxieties as I do. My apologies, it seems I was mistaken. From now on I will speak for myself only , as well as about my profoundly Muslim experiences.

And I will pray to Allah to approve your visa!

Have a peaceful evening!
