Back home and the garden is absolutely blooming. We've crossed that point in the Spring here in Virginia where the sun and the rain create the perfect conditions to just make everything grow like crazy. The grass and the weeds too unfortunately.

Here's a pic from just over a month ago:

And here is what it looks like now:

Wanted to add for the last time that the roses started to come back from the damage and are looking pretty good. Soon I will be able to do the regular pruning. I bought a couple of plats of flowers and placed them in the rose garden to preempt my wife from doing so. Even she said the bed looks good and has watered it. She is a great babe and I am lucky to have her. I promise her anything she wants in the 3 remaining beds.

Good luck and God bless to all.

Awesome pics, Lynne and InLuv. Lynne, my fleurs did exactly the same thing with that weather. They went nuts!

Kathryn, holy smokes. lol That is a LOT of gardening.

I came back from my "hols" and expected to find things looking a little sad, but my husband did pretty well at keeping everything alive. Unfortunately, we have a rabbit who enjoys strawberries and pansies. <_< And perhaps some deer, because my husband says he was out on the deck when a deer came right up to the garden a few feet away and then noticed him.

Need to get out and do some dead-heading, though. And now that the oppressive heat has set in I should probably change out some flowers and give the plants some food.

Good luck and God bless to all.

Txn.... I hope you reconsider and come back. If there is a problem, report it to the mods or Ewok. Some people or their actions aren't worth taking seriously. I would have left long ago if I took things personally. How are we ever going to know how your gardens turned out?!

I have to figure out how to post the pictures but I planted late for the season here, was away from June 5 to 12 and came back to find a jungle had exploded in the garden - and fortunately not just weeds (although they are far healthier than I want, as well). I can't keep up with the broccoli, the yellow squash, leeks and jalapenos already and except for the broccoli they are just starting! I can freeze the extra broccoli but I honestly thought the plants would be done by now but they are still going strong. Everything looks nice and healthy except for the dill - not sure why but will keep an eye on it. Apparently we had a bit of rain while we were away and my neighbour kindly agreed to water the garden if we went more than 2 days without rain so they obviously didn't suffer. I purchased the stakes yesterday and will have to build the supports around the tomatoes today or tomorrow so they have some place to go. I've tried the wire cages and the square cages before but they are just not big enough to support the tomatoes so will try a structure we saw in North Carolina at their botanical gardens made of rope and 3 long supports. And figure out how to upload photographs to here :) .

I was working in my parents' garden while I was away. They use 3 large bamboo poles for each plant, placed as a tripod. Was going to look to see if I could get them around here.

I was saying in another thread that I found the most AMAZING garden centre by me. In fact, I love it so much that I want to work there. I'm going back later today to pick out some rocks to build an inukshuk. This will be my Canada Day prezzie to myself. :)

Yeah, that bamboo structure sounds like the one I'll be doing with the long stakes - 8 foot lengths.

Ooo - an inukshuk! What a great idea - I may very well 'borrow' that one, Krikit!

(This is what an inkshuk looks like for those who don't know - it is the symbol of Canada's newest territory - Nunavut http://www.fanpop.com/spots/canada/images/55879/title/inukshuk-nunavut-photo )

Yeah, it's one of the things I miss. I was thinking of hosting a Canada Day party, through that link Ontarkie gave, and having everyone build one. Except I couldn't find a location around here where you could just pick up rocks. I'm sure there must be lots of places where you can get one but I am not familiar enough with the area to do that. What if it's illegal here?! haha Maybe next year.

This week we have had mostly our own vegetables at every meal. Lots of peas, potatoes, spinach, chard, turnips, lettuce and some spring onions (scallions).

The peppers, tomatoes, green beans, garlic and onions are also doing well - can't wait for the green beans to grow big enough to eat.

Weeds are a menace though - growing so fast - next year I need to look into good ways to mulch around the seedlings to cut down on the day-to-day weeding.

Hi Gardening peeps

How is everyone doing? All been too busy working in the fresh air to post obviously.

Here's our current garden bounty - peppers, onions, blueberries, figs, okra, green beans, tomatoes, squash (and we're still eating the potatoes and garlic harvested earlier in the year. Just putting all our fall crops in now.

Luckytxn - please come back and show us your new flower beds in full bloom.

Awesome. That is a picture of love right there. You show love to plants and they show it right back. star_smile.gif

I have no pics to show. My roses suffered this year. The only hope is next year. One of my main rose bushes may not make it. That storm awhile back hurt it a lot.

Very impressive!

Indeed.
