Strange email from embassy in Rio

I, us citizen petitioner, recieved an email from the embassy in Rio requesting that we gather all our documents and mail them to the embassy and that after they recieve everything they will set up an appointment for the interview. My financee hasn´t recieved anything in the mail or an email. Is this the normal procedure? If so what all do we need to send? I asked the embassy this question and they just said ´We usually request the document before, so we can proceed with the verifications and process the case in a more expeditious way.´

Welcome to the forum.

Wow! That does sound interesting, that certainly might be more expeditious. Check the Rio embassy page on the VJ site for specific document requirements.

Good luck on your visa journey.

One more thing. I´m worried that we´re running out of time because we recieved the NOA2 on January, 11. They first sent the petition to the embassy in La Paz, Bolivia because my fiancee was in school there but now she´s back in Brazil. We had to have La Paz then send it to Rio. La Paz told us that the petition is only valid for four months. Should I be worried?

Thanks for the quick reply A&B, yes I checked that before, it says no documents need to be mailed to the embassy.

Sounds like they may be trying to expedite your case, especially since you have a short timeframe. Contact Rio about an extension, that shouldn't be a problem.

The normal procedure is your fiancee to take all required documents with her on the interview day. You should send an email to ImmigrationRio@state.gov for further information. Good luck.
