I don't know how it works for the Abu Dhabi embassy, but after your petition is approved, it is forwarded first to the National Visa Center (where your case will be assigned a number) before going to the embassy. This step can take a few weeks (more if they do some additional background verification).

How can we track our case after our case left USCIS?

You can start calling NVC about 10 days after your petition was approved, to know if they received your case.

Just got off of the phone with a nice lady at NVC. She said that it is taking 10-15 business days for USCIS-approved petitions to show up in the NVC system. I will be calling them back next week, hopefully with an informative update.

As Darnell pointed out in a previous post, the dates to get from the NVC include:

  • The date when it arrived at the NVC,
  • The date when it left NVC for the consulate, and
  • The Embassy Casefile Number.

Hey, at least it is not the 4-5 month wait at the USCIS. I am grateful for the change in pace....

Good luck on your journey.

Completed: K1/K2 (271 days) - AOS/EAD/AP (134 days) - ROC (279 days)

There are 2 steps in getting a K-1 visa. First submit a I-129F petition at USCIS (about 5 months), then when the petition is approved (NOA2), you can apply for the K-1 visa at your consulate (each consulate has their own timeframe). It's 2 different things, so no, having your petition approved doesn't mean you get the visa. It means you can now apply for the visa.

Abu Dhabi is where I'll have my interview as well. I know it'll take almost 4 months and this is really painful after all that waiting. BUT my friend's appointment was only 2.5 months after her approval, SO lets think positive and keep our finger crossed!

Good Luck, see you in Abu Dhabi Soon!

It took me 5 months and 10 days of waiting to have my interview appointment at Jan. 10, 2012 we got our NOA2 last July 31. There's no definite reason why ABDB embassy took time to schedule an appointment maybe because there's alot of application for student visa for locals emirate as well as family visa migrating to the US.
