Steaming from a debate I had with my husband. In a hypothetical situation, medical needs to get redone for AOS and the petitioner is a tricare beneficiary , would tricare cover the cost of the medical ?

If I were you I would call you on post clinic. They have to issue a referral in order for tricare to cover the cost for anything unless its an emergency situation.. I just got mine done for my wife and we had to pay out of pocket.

So IF we need to do medical, I have to go to the clinic on base, tell em I need to get medical done by a civil surgeon for immigration purposes and get a federal from them? I mean will they know what I'm talking about?

Cause you know when we first started for my k-1 everyone suggested talking to the JAG people and calling the military hotline, but they were even more confused than us.I wonder if medical guys are any better

Typically the medical is NOT covered by any insurance. You have to pay cash upfront.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thanks, that's what I was thinking

You won't need a whole new medical! Relax! :)

I am sorry, I should have clarified. What I was saying is anything that Tricare is going to cover, unless it is an emergency, you need prior approval to go off base. Meaning you need a referral. You can't just go off post to a doctor and send the bill to tricare anymore. International SOS are more strict than the old company that held the Tricare contract.

even IF a military doctor gives you a referral off base (which probably won't happen) the civil surgeon will not accept any kind of insurance such as tricare. it will be a full out of pocket expense, except the shots. I brought my shot record on base, they transferred my international shot record into the miltary form. I also brought them a list of the required vaccinations. they went through it, gave me the ones which I didnt have and updated my shot record. I went with my records to the civil surgeon and was saving money, by not getting it done in their office.

It's rather simple... any immigration related medical examination will NOT be covered by Tricare, period.
