Hi Vj members,

My wife (B1/B2) and I (US citizen) are in the process of adjusting her status. Our interview is coming up and we have a few questions regarding her social security number and driver's license. She has received her EAD card and SS#. The SS card states that is is only valid for employment with DHS authorization. Once she receives her conditional green card (been married for less than 2 years), does she need to go back and reapply/replace her SS card for a new one OR wait until she is approved for her PERMANENT green card to replace her SS card??

Also, she got a driver's licence that is temporary for 1 year due to her status that she was able to get with her EAD and SS#. Once she receives her conditional green card, does she need to reapply for a new driver's license so that the restrictions (how long its good for) are taken away OR does she wait for her PERMANENT green card to do that as well?

Thanks!

She won't replace her SSN. She may update it to have the 'Not Valid..." removed from it or she may choose not to. Her green card (whether conditional or permenant) is her DHS authorization.

Driver's licences are based by state, however I suspect her driver's licence will be good for the duration of her legal status. Once she gets her 2 year green card, she'll go in and get a driver's lience good for that time. The she can go in once she has her 10 year green card

Good lcuk

The DMV in Florida states that if you are a nonimmigrant (which at this point she is)...there will be "temporary" stamped across her driver's license. Once she gets her conditional green card, she should come in and update her status no immigrant (green card holder)?? I hope i understand this correctly....

Normally, the driver licences for US citizens/permanent residents are good for 8 years in FL....

There is no difference between "conditional" and "permanent" residency except the way in which you renew the card. A GC holder is a GC holder, no matter the type. You can get the "not valid" removed once she has GC. The number is the same.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
