Grad in sociology/Undergrad in Psychology as well, (spent a lovely 3 1/2 years in the great white north known as Minnesota for this. Actually, I have. It's not about preying on those who cannot defend themselves. There are cases that meet that criteria, sure. However for most individuals, it's no different than your average person's sexual attraction to an adult human being.

I don't think you want me to explain to you the horror stories I've heard/listened to on this topic and the people I've met.

there was a guy in my graduating class who used that exact argument as his defense when he got caught 'dating' girls in his art class. dude kept getting drunk at local bars and telling old schoolmates how he'd found the perfect gig for getting fresh tail on the side from his age compatible wife..

i know that guys are naturally attracted to girls who may or may not be legal. i don't think there is anything wrong with that attraction in the slightest. it isn't until someone disassociates what is socially acceptable - especially in a position of authority over a minor - and decides to act on that attraction that there is an abuser and a victim. as long as the girl is in school and the perp is her teacher - you can't place any amount of blame on the girl. even if she DID want it. even if she begged for it. all adults - even horny men - must be held accountable for their actions toward children. sorry.

and ptsd is a the body's natural defense against trauma. in effect - shutting down. someone in shutdown mode can't exactly pull themselves out of that hole, not without help from an outside source.

Laws and morals change with time. It was just around a century ago that we changed the laws for men being able to date younger girls and vise versa even. It was normal, naturally, acceptable, etc. for a 30 year old male to date a 14 year old female, hell to marry her and start a family even. Society changed, a few scientific studies were done showing that it's a danger in 'some' cases on a mental and physical level for girls to have children at such an early age, society stole that as a majority of cases though and changed the law to fit the moral standards of the time. The "attraction" never went away though, it just became a crime.

This is also the argument I use on pedophiles as well. MOST pedophiles do not act on their attractions due to a logical understand and emotional maturity at the same time. It's when one of those is lacking that they act upon how they feel. There are actually a lot more pedophiles in this society though that we're better off not knowing they exist. The media fear storm of child abductions is bad enough as it is. If society really knew the scope of the "problem" then no child would ever be let outside again.

And i completely agree the way that society treats the threat of pedophiles is absurd. I was arguing that point in that boyscout gay ban thread. To overlook the cause and actual fault for the sake of stereotype is letting the majority of the problem go unchecked.

I guess I want to know what you'd do if your 14 year old daughter got swept up in getting all a's or thought she fell in love with a man who most definitely knew what he was doing/manipulating. would you blame yourself?

Alla and I have decided we are in the post-conventional stage of moral development. (Kohlberg) Seems to work OK for us. No wonder we get along so well. But I much prefer mature women. Show me a 22 year old hottie and I will follow her home to meet her mother!
