Amen to that Bro...... can we agree the guy might have been -ahead of his time?

Older men in positions of authority using their authority to have sex with younger women of lower social status is something that was rampant in the past.

Will it come back in the future? Who knows.

why do people assume that any of the girls invited it in this case? He was a sex ed TEACHER! Automatically puts him in a position of power over the students does it not? Also, you actually think that ANY of these girls got the urge to have sex with this teacher and thought "oh I want to have sex with him and its okay as long as I 'proceed safely'"?! Thats #######. And you are assuming that any of this sex was done "safely". How can a 14 year old girl make a choice with her 33 year old sex ed/phys ed teacher???

You claim to be one of the so-called 'victims' and now you're preaching like you're someone on a mission that wasn't directly involved. Seems somewhat fishy.

You have to remember, even as a teenager, you have choices to make. They may not always be the right choices (just as an adult) but they are still choices. The position of authority is never the only answer to the equation. There are many other factors that take place here as to why a student would agree to do such things with a teacher.

I don't see how this should EVER be considered okay or normal. Do you guys have any idea what kind of effect that abuse has on someone? For the rest of their lives? They are never the same after..never!

Actually the results you speak of aren't exactly all that common. Most people who are 'abused' go on and live normal happy lives and are able to forget about their past. We hear a lot more about the victims of said abuse who lack the mental/emotional maturity to get beyond what has happened to them earlier in their life, but they are far from normal. Most that lack that emotional maturity would never have it in their life to begin with and the situation just causes them to be worse off than what they already were going to be even if the abuse had not occurred.

That is why I believe we should do away with listing and prosecuting sex offenders. After all, the children they abuse also bear some responsibility! They are no different than women who go around dressed in a manner that screams 'please rape me'... Duh!!!

In the end. if you asked for it or didn't stop it, it is your darn fault!!!!

Some lack emotional maturity. Not all and not even most for that matter.

Your sarcasm is ignorant of the ability of one to make decisions in regards to a situation.

A properly educated teenager (at home and school) would know to report such an offer from a teacher to their parents, administrators, etc. Hell, even going thruogh the steps of life, most understand the differences between right and wrong who have been somewhat a part of social interaction the first 14 years of their life. There are always choices to make, and there's a HUGE difference in offering a better grade and taking the bargain and being forcibly raped.

Fortunately for them, there are laws that take this debate from a Wikipedia level, to concrete and defined lines...

, and there's a HUGE difference in offering a better grade and taking the bargain and being forcibly raped.

Both are statutory rape, according to the law.

ATOKA COUNTY, OKLAHOMA -- A former Atoka teacher was sentenced to eight years in prison this morning.

32 year-old Casey Hauff pled guilty to eight of the 11 charges against him, including second degree rape, forcible sodomy, sexual battery and solicitation of a minor.

During an OSBI investigation, five female victims came forward, saying Hauff offered them better grades, in exchange for sexual acts.

He resigned from his position as a coach and biology teacher in October.

Atoka's court clerk says he'll serve eight years in prison followed by 12 years probation.

The second guy (the sex-ed teacher) seems to have gotten off pretty light since the girls were past the age of consent. The unsolicited groping aside, the sexual assault case is interesting as the girl legally consented to the sex (so it seems as no rape charge was brought). It was only his position of power that made it illegal at all. I definitely wouldn't see it as a step in the right direction but James may be right that it's not far off that something like this won't even get a slap on the wrist (and that's mostly all he got here).
