Does anyone know if it is legal for a green card holder (LPR) to purchase and own a gun in the state of Missouri? This is not for carry and conceal, this would just be to shoot at the range.

Thanks.

Have you tried asking your local gun shop or police department?

Yes, I called my local Bass Pro shop and they said it is legal as long as I have been a resident of the State for at least 90 days. I just would like confirmation from someone who might know for sure, rather than from a shop who probably want to sell me a gun.

Under federal law, yes. LPRs can buy and own guns. Check state laws. My wife (an LPR, soon to be citizen) owns, buys and uses firearms regularly, she is an avid shooter. She recently bought me a new skeet gun for a gift.

In Vermont she can also carry concealed. These are state regulations.

I am sure the people selling guns know the law. I am sure it is OK if they say so.

I THINK The only thing special about missouri is that to purchase a handgun I believe you have to have a permit and permits are not issued to non-citizens.

There are no laws on the books for non-handguns (shotguns or rifles)

That permit thing is a case waiting to happen. In Texas for example citizens/permanent residents enjoy the same gun rights.

Thanks for your reply. Just for future reference for anyone reading this, it turns out a permit is not required for the LPR to purchase a gun (as long as it's not carry conceal)in the State of Missouri. Appreciate your response though :)

You can always go down to the police station and ask if you can get a permit? I would think that in any state, a green card holder would be allowed to carry. If you have to be a citizen to enjoy your 2nd Amendment right then you have to be a citizen to enjoy all other rights too. Are you allowed freedom of religion? Freedom of speech? Then you're allowed to carry a gun.

I know in Indiana I was allowed to get mine with a green card.

I HATE miles, gallons, pints, words spelled without u's, and all that other jazz...
