So you support green card fraud in this exact case because it is the "moral" thing to do? Don't be coy, and don't pretend we are talking about some other imaginary story.I disagree with you on the morality of marrying for the purpose of immigration fraud. It is not moral. While I agree that immigration fraud is completely unacceptable, the morality question regarding the kids can be up for debate. They weren't brought here on their own choosing and they really had nothing to do with what their mother did. It's ok to feel bad for them, and you could argue that it's morally ok to do whatever is in your power to try to make sure they have a good life. I'm not taking a stance here, just adding that morality and law aren't always two of the same and definitely not always 100% black and white.

Talk about nonsense! The infantile and vague "laws are not always moral" has zero application here. We are not talking about runaway slave laws, so stop pretending it is some imaginary story instead of this one. Care to explain why this law is immoral?

It is against the forum rules to argue for breaking the law, and I am glad for that. Because if it were not true we would have more people like you outright arguing for immoral and illegal behavior. Teaching children to break the law just so long as it makes your standard of living higher - wow, what great morals you have. That is exactly the same reasoning that justifies stealing, kidnapping, rape, murder - every crime on the books. Sure, stealing and murder for life insurance makes your life better so we should steal and kill!

There's the law, ethics and morals. These are three different things. The post is not necessarily contradicting itself.

Immigration fraud is illegal. Neither the original poster nor the post you replied to argue that it's not. We're all in agreement.

But sometimes upholding the law means doing something that's ( rarely ) unethical or ( often ) immoral. Your morals are more of a personal affair, and for some of us seeing innocent children suffer and not do something about it ( even if that something is illegal ) is in itself immoral. To other people, their moral code presents no no such ambivalence. Neither is "right" or "wrong". The original poster simply followed his conscience.

Personally, I respect him for sticking it out for the kids. Financially you'll probably get screwed but at least you know you did what you thought was best for everyone involved at the time.

No. He allowed someone to manipulate his conscience through extortion. A criminal that is overstaying their visa cannot blame the victim: the person they are extorting into marriage. That is another criminal offense, and people should be counseled to go to the cops when they are being extorted - not to assist the extortionist.

You are advising the next person who is in exactly the same situation to commit the same immigration fraud and therefore end up in exactly the same predicament as this guy:

This act of immigration fraud was not just unethical, but extremely self-destructive. I disagree with you. People should be strongly discouraged from this. It is good that he posted his story so that people who are in his predicament do not make the same mistake. Do not allow yourself to be extorted into committing green card for marriage fraud.

Yes absolutely he will have suffered a tremendous loss of income, time, the emotional trauma, etc. - which is one of the best arguments for refusing to follow the advice you are giving to others who find themselves in his position: in an immigration for green card fraud scheme.

Do not fall for this extortion, or you may find yourself in a lot worse condition than this fellow. It might be a VAWA claim that has you locked out of your own house, lose your job, lose your savings etc.
