NVC Filers - April 2012

Hello all,

Upon reviewing my dude's tax info, we will be needing a joint sponsor. His parents are more than willing to do this because his dad sponsored his mom via CR1 from England (the men in his family like us commonwealth girls I guess). So I just want to make sure I have everything straight.

-He will fill out the I-864, and provide me (and NVC of course) with past 3 years of tax transcripts. He is self employed so no letter of employment etc. is available.

-His Father (or Mother) will also fill out I-864 and provide tax transcripts, the other fills out the I-864a, as they file jointly. Do I need the past 3 years transcripts from them or is one ok?

-We will send copies of their citizenship/birth certificates - Do I need to have their originals for my Interview in Montreal?

If we don't have all of their paperwork by the time we have our MTL#, IIN . . . should we just send in his I-864 and wait for an RFE while gathering their info? Will it go through NVC without the joint sponsor? Can I just be prepared to provide joint sponsor info at interview?

I haven't even called NVC yet for the numbers because waiting for the NOA2 and constantly checking the USCIS website only to see the same thing day after day was really depressing, until it wasn't. I figured I'd give them a couple of weeks and make sure we had everything ready on our end, now I want to make sure our IV bill is issued after the price is reduced.

Also, since the electronic processing is still optional (I think) What does everyone think about it? Looking at Saylin's spreadsheet it doesn't really seem to be lightening fast in comparison to the regular processing. I know the spreadsheet has all countries on it but it seems like the fastest case completes are not using EP.

Thank you, thank you, thank you VJers (especially Saylin) I can finally see the end of this long(distance) tunnel and all of the info and support on these forums has kept me sane this past year.

Okay, for the AOS package: the petitioner (your husband) will fill out an I-864. He can either include one year or the last 3 years, it's up to you two. No employment letter is fine as that's optional.

For the joint sponsors: if one has sufficient income for the entire household size, then you don't need both. So, go with the parent with the highest income. They would then fill out their own I-864. Again, it's either the recent year or last three years that are needed for the tax information. And if they filed jointly, then the sponsor will need to include their own W2s to show NVC the separate incomes. And yes, you'll need to include their proof of citizenship/residency. Not sure if it'll be needed at the interview, but I'd suggest bringing it just in case. But you'll definitely need the original I-864s as they take those in, along with the tax information.

Keep in mind, it's currently taking about 3 weeks to get a case number assigned after NOA2. Then from there, add another week or so until the AOS is invoiced and appearing as PAID (if bill is paid straight away). I'd suggest waiting for all documents before sending it out. Remember, you don't absolutely have to send NVC the packages as soon as the bill appears as PAID. You can take your time if needed. Remember, you still have to submit the DS-260 and send the IV package, which is another week or so from the AOS being invoiced, so you're not wasting any time at NVC if that's your concern. And if you're waiting for the IV bill to be decreased, that's still another two weeks away. What documents are you still missing for the AOS package?

I'd suggest calling NVC at least once or twice a week to see if a case number has been assigned.

EP is still optional for Montreal, but I still suggest it. You don't have to mail anything, you don't have to pay to mail those things, no chance of NVC (or the mail carrier) losing your originals/certified copies. No, it's not lightning fast, but you have to remember NVC is dealing with hundreds of thousands of cases. Your case isn't gonna be complete in a day, it does take time.

Totally agree with this! When I started the I-130 process I was asking questions at a UK-specific immigration forum with people who were absolutely rude and unfeeling. A lot of the responses were, "Google it." or "Nobody cares.", which is such a horrible thing to hear when you're in such a messy, slow, and hugely emotional process. I truly appreciate the positive, supportive community vibes on this forum. You've saved me a lot of tears!

Wow blink.gif You're kidding! They actually said that on that forum? ohmy.gif

Yes you are right. All the credit goes to Saylin. She worked really hard for this thread.

Hehe ^_^

Yeah, I think a few of them got off on being the smart guy who knows how everything works and can therefore be rude and condescending to everyone else. I asked them once why they bothered to be moderators of a forum if they were constantly annoyed by everyone's "dumb" questions, but they said "some people appreciate us telling the truth without sugarcoating it."

Incidentally, they also didn't know nearly as much as you do :D

Wow, that's ridiculous!

And perhaps if they spent more time being nice and learning about the process than being condescending, they'd know as much as me ;)laughing.gif

By the time those two weeks come to a close, you should have a case number and have the AOS appearing as PAID.

If you're planning on doing EP, I suggest reading the wiki I wrote about it (as well as online forms), linked in my signature below.

My husband thought the same thing about me. When I was going through this process, I was on VJ literally all day, from morning to night. But, it paid off as I was studying the process like crazy, from NVC onwards, and not once did we get an RFE, checklist, or anything. It was as smooth as it could be.
