Hi everyone,

Also, Laure thanks for posting about the change in fees but I cannot work out what that $330 USD fee is for. I thought I had two fees left to pay, AOS fee of $88 and IV fee of $404. Can you shed some light?

Thanks

Duh, you're right... I'm not sure then

Hi again all,

I just picked up a letter from the US embassy here in Kuwait (husband has to get a letter from embassy in order to request a police certificate from local authority).

The letter casually mentioned at the very end that all applicants have to get a police clearance from places they have lived in for 6 months or more. However, we've been going by what the NVC website says (click here for the link, then scroll down).

The NVC website says applicant needs a police clearance from every country lived in for 12 months, not 6 months. Am I missing something here?

My husband traveled around Canada for 7 months, and we hadn't planned on obtaining a Canadian police clearance.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you!!

It's places they have lived in:

- for 6 months in their home country (some places don't have a nationwide police clearance document I suppose)

- for 12 months abroad

If you're on the NVC website, you've probably found the table they have explaining this.

Yes, the table is what we have been going by. The embassy letter threw me for a loop, and this process is starting to get me a little bit paranoid. I was wondering if had missed something?!?

Yes I am. My husband and I both go to Baptist churches, and I've been singing since...1995 I think. He's a youth pastor, and going to school on a scholarship to become a full pastor one day. Sometimes I worry I really don't live up to that, but I'm getting there! What is your denomination?

Did you guys hear about the IV fee decreasing? It's coming a little late for us :sleepy:

Yup, someone posted it in the March thread. Very good news as it's being decreased by $100!

Hi everyone,

I am now part of this group. Waiting for my paperwork to be received at NVC so they can issue a case number. I called NVC one week after my NOA2 but got the standard line of call back in 20 business days. I am sure he didn't look on the system. This prompts my question, what do you say when you call the NVC to chase your case number? As soon as the operator heard I had an NOA2 date on 22nd March he didn't bother entering my reciept number into the system.

Also, Laure thanks for posting about the change in fees but I cannot work out what that $330 USD fee is for. I thought I had two fees left to pay, AOS fee of $88 and IV fee of $404. Can you shed some light?

Thanks

If they don't check, then just call back and ask another operator. Be adamant that you want them to check.

As for the fees, here is how it works for the IV fee:

-immigrant visa application fee $330

-immigrant visa security surcharge $74

$330 + $74 = $404

So, once it's reduced to $230, the final price will be $304 (unless they change the $74 fee too, but it doesn't mention that on the link).

My husband traveled around Canada for 7 months, and we hadn't planned on obtaining a Canadian police clearance.

Can anyone advise?

Thank you!!

If it's any part of the current country, then it's just 6 months. But if it's a different country of residence, then it's 12 months. So, for Canada, since it's been under 12 months, he shouldn't need a PCC from there.

I have asked a couple of times but I got no answer. Is it preferable to send in the AOS and IV package by mail or you can just send them as an attachment by e mail? I would appreciate an answer. Thanks.

You CANNOT send them by email. Greece is NOT an eligible country for electronic processing. You HAVE to snail mail both packages to NVC.

Ahh yes I am wondering is the embassy in DR will be closed to due to this. I assumed no since it's the American embassy and they don't really celebrate semana santa like they do in Latin America. But even if they do close, doesn't it not matter anyway since NVC is going to be scheduling your interiew? I'm sure NVC wont close.

Hi JNEKG! Re your 1st question, just keep calling the NVC every day or as often as you can. They will keep giving you the standard line until someone sees that your case # has been assigned. We got our case # about 2 days after we were told to call back in 10 days.

Re your 2nd question: the IV fee of $404 actually is $330 for the application, and a $74 security fee (or something like that). Check it out on the NVC website here: Fees for Visa Services
