Need some advice please! :help:

My DS-261 (Online Choice of Address & Agent) was available to me, so I went to fill it out. For Surname, it says to "enter all surnames as listed in your passport or travel documents". The ONLY piece of ID I haven't had changed to my married name is my passport. This means I must enter my maiden name on this online form, correct? Does anyone know if this is going to cause any problems and will my visa be issued in my married name (which is what I want)? I didn't update my passport to my married name for cost reasons, but if this is going to cause problems moving forward or mean my visa will be issued in my maiden name, I guess I'll have to eat it and apply for a new passport in my married name.

Second question, should I use my address or my Hubby's address for correspondence from DoS regarding my visa application?

Thanks everyone!!

To all MENA filers here......if you are as upset and discouraged as I am....about the slow moving of NVC.....call and speak with a supervisor. I just got off the phone with a supervisor. They are much more kind, and helpful. She told me exactly what to do, which I did just 2 minutes ago. There might be something stupid holding up your case, that the operators don't know about, and the only way to find out is from a supervisor! Good luck to all! ( I was even crying on the phone - feel like a dork, but when you wake up every day not knowing if your spouse is alive, because people are being slaughtered in his country every day.....you can't help but cry! And yes, I said those exact words to the supervisor too!)

i mean, to all filers.....

Hi Kerry,

I was in the same boat as yourself, concerning the passport and name change! I filed all my documents at NVC in my married name, however, toward the end, they automatically take the name on your passport (which is my maiden name). It didn't cause any problems, but it would just make sense to put what's on your passport, since at the end, that is the name to which your green card will be issued.

Concerning the 2nd point, I put my husband's address in the USA, as it was 'recommended' to give a US address in case the postal service in any other country may have problems.

Thought the DS-261 only asked for your surname (and didn't specify whether married or maiden).

Anyways, I believe the visa (and then later on, the green card) is issued in the last name that appears in your passport. So, if you want your visa (and then the green card, SSN, driver's license, etc) to be in your married name, you're going to have to update your passport to your new married name.

For the DS-261, you should be able to just put in your married name (no way for them to check against your passport at the moment), and you should be able to do the same for the DS-260. But get your passport changed pronto before your interview (and preferably before the IV package, which contains a copy of your passport).

And you can use either address. The DS-3032 is kind of a moot form at this point as, if you give your email addresses over to an operator, all correspondence is EMAILED to you both, rather than snail mailed anymore. Most people elect their US spouse as the agent though.

Thank you very much, Saylin. I do want all those documents to be in my married name, so I'm going to get the passport application filled out this evening, go get the passport pictures done right now and hopefully take my application down to the passport office tomorrow afternoon. I already have my guarantor, so at least that part is easy for me! LOL Turn around time is 10 days when done in person according to the passport Canada website.
