we've had a death in the family, so the last thing on my fathers mind is taxes. mine are done, but since my mother is my joint sponsor, will sending her W2's and her pay stub be sufficient along with my tax transcript for the interview. i know sometimes they don't even check, but i want to make sure my husband comes prepared, my father is asking for an extension, so i don't know if the 1040 will be ready to go by the 10th of may in time for me to send all the stuff to my husband. can i write a letter for my husband to bring with him and a copy of the obituary? thank you

Send your parents 2010 tax transcripts, proof of current income for 2012, and a copy of the the IRS form 4868, showing your parents filed for an extension for 2011.

Understandably your father is upset, but he needs to send this form to the IRS TODAY. The deadline is tomorrow.

If your parents file jointly, and your mother is your sponsor and is not counting your father's income,(he did not fill out and sign an I-864a) all you need to send is your mother's W2's and a copy of the transcripts.

If she included your father's income and he filed an I-864a then you will need his too.

First off, condolences to your family.

I'd suggest sending the following to your husband: your tax transcript, your mom's W2s and pay stubs, copy of your father's extension letter, a letter explaining why your father hasn't filed, and include the obituary as well to prove the person indeed has died.

To add to this:

The sponsor or joint sponsor(s) do not solely contribute to the care and upkeep of the immigrant. They are not legally bound to 'send the immigrant money' to support them.

The sponsor is promising the US government that the immigrant they are sponsoring will not become a public charge. If the immigrant applies for and receives any means tested federal benefits, then the sponsor is legally obligated to pay back that benefit.

First the primary sponsor, in this case, the immigrants spouse, will be taken to court and told to pay the money back. If the primary sponsor does not, then the joint sponsor(s) will then be taken to court. It's like co-signing a loan.

I would like to add, it's been shown by numerous polls and studies, immigrants only make up 12% of recipients of federal means tested benefits. 62% are white, middle class US citizens.

You should be getting your case number soon.

I hope you're right!! :)

So yours is in the building? That is very enouraging. I have no idea where mine is. I will call again this afternoon.

Yes, my case has arrived at NVC. I'm thinking it's very likely that yours is there as well. Probably sent in the same bunch from CSC since we have the same NOA2 date. Maybe if you try calling later this afternoon they'll be able to confirm it. Of course, it obviously totally depends on who you talk to! Hope you don't get RoboFrank.

DId they just tell you it's in the building or did you ask them? ALl i hear is "we dont have your case"

Ruby told me before I had a chance to ask if she knew if our case had arrived. They must have arrived this morning since when I called on Friday night, I did ask if if my case was there and was told no. Based on your NOA2 date, I'm hoping yours was also sent in the same bunch.

That's really weird... There have been a few recent people eligible for online forms (Neela, Sheeshka, Gervl, etc) that gotten a CC within a week after submitting the DS-260 and IV package. They couldn't have lost it as it's an online form, but I can't think of any reason why it's been taking awhile for you...

posted this in a separate thread by accident:

we've had a death in the family, so the last thing on my fathers mind is taxes. mine are done, but since my mother is my joint sponsor, will sending her W2's and her pay stub be sufficient along with my tax transcript for the interview. i know sometimes they don't even check, but i want to make sure my husband comes prepared, my father is asking for an extension, so i don't know if the 1040 will be ready to go by the 10th of may in time for me to send all the stuff to my husband. can i write a letter for my husband to bring with him and a copy of the obituary? thank you

My condolences to your family... (F)

It took 14 days to receive a case number from the day NVC first claimed that my file was 'in the building' and another 6 days before that before they claimed it was ever in the building. So, I was 20 days exactly... it also took them 7 days just to change my AOS fee status from 'in process' to 'paid' even though they took the money the very next day (MANY people get theirs within 2 days)... very aggravating... there's no prediction... i know someone with an NOA2 before mine that is now further ahead of me at NVC (without an expedite i believe) so, not that i begrudge them, but just to show that NVC is just unpredictable at times... and I'm still waiting for the IV bill to post even though it was promised last Friday with my DS-3032 accepted long before that...

So I scanned the NOA2 and emailed it just now. Lets see where that goes. I will continue calling everyday. I will call again this afternoon. I hope there is not an additional wait to get the case number once NVC has received it.

This really sucks. My wife had called NVC and was told last week that we should get the IV billed invoiced no later by this Tuesday. Today she called up again and was told by a supervisor that because of the new lower fee it could take upto 10 days to get the IV bill. :help:

That is very strange. My DS-260 and IV packet was done on the 5th of April. The 9th is why I received the email that our DS-260 was accepted and our case was complete. Two of the five days was a weekend.

hmm. worst part of this wait is there is no way to find out why it's taking so long.
