hi saylin in the federal register it states that the security surcharge is now embedded in the fees

this is from the register dated 3/29 so we think its $230 and this is included can you clarify please

Please note that the Immigrant Visa Security Surcharge of $75 is embedded in the aforementioned immigrant visa application processing fee and will no longer be charged as a standalone fee or set forth as a separate fee on the Schedule

Ok thanks Saylin i think that i will have to apply for one and have them sent it to my wife's house so when i come i could start driving the first day i arrive as she is pregnant you never know what could happen, as sometimes babies suprise us by coming earlier than predicted

Yup, definitely handy to legally be allowed to drive upon arriving in the US. Thankfully, my Canadian driver's license gave me the right to drive. Although, I did eventually get a US driver's license before my Canadian one expired, but at least I didn't have to worry about it right when I moved.

i tried that, mozilla firefox

Is your Firefox the newest version? Have you updated to the newest Adobe Reader yet?

Does anyone know if there is an reliable office for International driver License, i would like to apply online and have them deliver it to my wife's house

Try going to where you got your driver's license and see if they issue International Driver's Permits there.

Is there something like a AAA (American Automobile Association) there in Haiti?

In the top of the window, there's a diskette symbol and if you click on it, then it'll save it for you. It might be located different and/or look different if you're still using an older version of Adobe Reader.

If you are using "Adobe Reader" you may not be able to save since sometimes these are protected forms. I suggest you download a program called "Foxit" (It is free)and then open the DS-230 form from the DoS website. That's the way I did it and I was able to save it without any issues

Call up the place where you got your driver's license and inquire about the IDP (International Driver's Permit).

Reading that paragraph, the surcharge is actually going up by a dollar to $75. So the IV fee will then be $305.

And it's just the IV invoice on hold until Friday, not case numbers being assigned.

Posted (edited)

it does say its embedded into that $230 dollar fee.. to us it means you pay just $230 i guess we wont know until friday

If it was to be embedded in the fee, then it would say here http://www.state.gov...2/03/187114.htm that the previous fee was $404 and the new fee was $230, but it doesn't. On that site, it's just talking about the FEE of the form, not including surcharges.

By "embedded" I think it's just referring to the fact that you just pay one bill online (currently $404), not two bills: one of $330 and one of $74.

You're moving to New York, right? It looks like New York will recognize your foreign license without an IDP for up to 30 days. IDP is recommended, but not required by the state, and new residents have 30 days to get their New York license.

I am moving to new jersey.

My guess is the rules are similar. No matter where you are, you still have to carry your Haitian license regardless because the IDP isn't actually a license, it just translates the license you already have into English. Maybe you can just carry your license and an English translation of it (I assume it's in French) until you get your New Jersey license. Here are the relevant NJ Motor Vehicle Commission pages:

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Vehicle/moving_to_nj/license04.htm

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/LicensesNon-Citizens.htm

PS: I don't have any experience with this. I'm just following what the internet seems to be saying!
