Wrong. Becoming a USC requires an oath to relinquish all previous allegiances to foreign governments.

No not wrong but I didn't fully explain. You're right, the US doesn't recognise other citizenships but it doesn't make you LOSE your other citizenships either, that is dependant on your home country. The US also doesn't take your USC simply because you get another countries citizenship. So I'm right that the US doesn't require you to do anything (I did say "at least in the US") to say "hey I'm dual/multi" because they don't care about it or "recognise" the other passports.

I wasn't aware the Philippines makes you re-acquire their citizenship... I can't say I've read that before so now I know BUT I did specify "at least in the US" so really I wasn't actually wrong. Many other countries (Australia and UK for example) don't need you to do anything to keep your home countries citizenship.

Wrong again. You should probably avoid the regionals so as not to cause anymore confusion.

The U.S. Government recognizes that dual nationality exists but does not encourage it as a matter of policy because of the problems it may cause.

Ya... I try not to go to other regional forums to make comments as there are too many differences between countries, some times I end up in a regional forum by following a hot topic lead and not notice where I am.

.... sort of like having one too many and then waking the next day confused...

Forms go out of date. Have to keep those dates in mind all the time because of changes. My wife has her 10 year permanent resident card, but not going to download the N-400 until June. Way back when I was trying to get her over here I busied myself by filling out forms early, and had to redo them because of expiration dates, hehe. (Darn VSC took so long).

:D Nothing wrong with thinking about it now. Saves a LOT of stress later :) Download the N-400 form and save it to your computer (I have). Remember to update it any time she leaves the country because that's easy to forget (Don't know about you but I don't remember EXACT visit dates after a while :))

Also if applying on the 3 year/marriage they will want relationship evidence (like with ROC if applicable). So again look at the forms and instructions and get a box and start putting relationship stuff aside. I'm doing ROC at the moment and thought I had saved some bills from online but it turns out I didn't and Verizon only keeps them for a year and my gas/elec only have the last 3 months or so... So i wish I'd saved them every month but oh well! :D

Oh of course they do. I'm just suggesting it as a way of keeping track of dates. My ROC stuff had to be redone as well but all the info was there in the form I'd already typed so no biggie :)

No I'm not wrong but you are right... I forget that some people don't have a strong grasp of the English language and certain words may confuse. I'm sorry I confused you.

The US recognises dual exists but does NOT see a dual USC as ANYTHING other than a USC (thus does not "recognise" a dual as a dual, simply as an American). You are a USC and nothing else. You can have other passports, they don't care, they know it exists but to the US you are simply American, that is all. You don't register your other passport with them or anything like that because you are simply an American.

I hope that helps clear your confusion.

 You don't know how to bow out gracefully, do you? I will be sure to write the DOS, and tell them how "confused" they are according to a recent immigrant.

I'm sorry you still don't understand but there's only so many ways to explain it. I'm not saying DOS is "confused" I'm saying YOU are confused and don't seem to understand why. I've tried to explain it but obviously I'm meeting with a brick wall. Maybe do some searches of other VJ threads that also explain it using the word "recognise" (but this seems to be your hang-up so maybe that's not any good). Google will work as well hopefully.

Again, to the US you are simply American, that is all. You can have other passports but to the US you are only American so they don't give two hoots about your other passports (or lack thereof). That's as plain as I can put it.

Yes. You are so right. You are always right. So sorry I ever doubted your superior grasp of all things.
