I don't know there are tens of thousand os school districts.

Not sure why you see the age of 18 as some chiseled in stone marker.

The first argument is - Hey they are both of age concenting adults.

The next one is -If they were not teacher and student this relationship would be perfectly acceptable...... and if this 17 year old wants to marry her teacher... whats the harm, he parents support her.

I personally don't see it chiseled in stone, but it is a harsh solid line as far as the law goes.

Authorities say the relationship was consensual — but violates state law that prohibits sex between a teacher and a student younger than 21. Authorities say the girl reported the relationship after learning that Paschal had expressed interest in another girl.

On the bribery charge — Paschal was convicted of telling a student he would give the 18-year-old girl several thousand dollars if she dropped the charges.

Paschal taught history and psychology. He was fired in May.

That's insane. We had a FHA teacher marry a gal that was in the same class as me. They waited until a few weeks after she graduated before they tied the knot, but he was knocking it out from the time she was a sophomore. Nothing happened to the guy...he was a good teacher, and her parents were cool with it. I went to school with her from the 7th grade on and she was a total knockout. Last I heard they were still married with kids.

Consensual sex between two adults does not require jail at all. The schools can have themselves moral clauses that say no sexual contact between teacher and students but jail should never have entered the picture.

These are state employees put in positions of trust to teach and safeguard students which are mandated to be there by law.

Should prison guards also get a free pass when they get caught doing the inmates?

How about the head of the police dept doing the junior deputies?

Is it okay for a Commanding officer to be banging the new privates assigned to his unit?

It would seem your experience in working in institutional or organizational settings is limited (which is fine), in the real world you can't have this stuff go on openly.

What the punishment would be, I don't know but there has to be some restraint.
