Is this document my NOA 2?

I received a letter today dated 23 MAR 2012, says:

The State Department's National Visa Center has recently received an approved I-129f petition filed on behalf of your fiance. This ltter is to let you know that within a week the petition will be forwarded to the appropriate visa-issuing post where your visa interview will take place. The US Embassy/Consulate General will contact your fiance when ready to begin processing his/her application..." It then shows my INS Receipt number and gives me a Case Number and says where the case will be processed (BKK). It then says what packet of instructions she will receive.

Question is, what letter is this? NOA2? Is doesn't say NOA2 anywhere on it, and it doesn't look like my I-797C (Notice of Action) received on 7 March.

Is this just an acknowledement, or are we already moving ont the next stage?

Thanks! (The USCIS still shows 'initial review' and the people who answered the phone didn't even know what a NOA2 was and had a hard time saying anything not on their script..)

No that is not an NOA 2.

The NOA2 comes from the USCIS and it says your case has been approved. It is a 797 notice. You should not ask about " NOA2" on the phone because they don't know what it is the NOA2 is used on VJ as a term for the notice of action that is approval of the case.

this is not an NOA-2.

NOA-2's are printed on I-797-C formletters.

Yeah, from what was posted, the letter is from the State Dept, so they must have received something to trigger that action. OP, was your petition expedited?

Not the notice of action from the processing center. Sometimes the NVC can be forwarded the accepted 129F before you receive the second notice of action from the local processing center. This just means you are on to the next step and the embassy in Thailand will be getting the documents from the NVC sometime in the next couple weeks. The NVC will process it in a short time.

Yes, I was able to expedite (though was never told my expedite request was approved).

So is the letter an indication that I was approved and the NOA2 is imminently forthcoming? It says the NVC has recently received the aapproved I-129.

You should be able to call NVC in a couple days and get the BKK case number then you can go about getting your medical and forms ready and interview booked etc.

Actually my bad its probably already left NVC since that mail was dated 23rd. Call NVC or DOS and get your BKK case number and see if they already have it at the US embassy.

Is the "Case Number BNK**********" on this letter different than the 'BKK case number'? I had never seen any case number befoe this letter, only the INS Receipt NUmber. This is the first I'm seeing this. If I have this case number already, can I call now to the NVC? Thanks again,

Lol, I guess I am way behind in updating my signature block.

I just got off the phone with the NVC. Gave them my case number and was told my packet 'left their facility' on 22 MARCH.

I specifically asked if that meant it left the CSC on thaat date and was told no, it left our facility (NVC) on the 22nd and that Miew should be receiving her packet for Medical and paperwork in the next week or so.. I cetainly was not expecting this turnaround and have to do some paperwork myself now!

Next question: where does ths put me on the timeline? Waiting on Embassy receipt and for Miew to get packet #3.

Yep waiting for the embassy to get it then start the stuff for P3. Lots of times it can be downloaded ahead of time and filled out so everything is ready to be sent back the day you get P3 in the mail. Check out the US embassy website for BKK and see if you can get any of the stuff done now and ready to send when they have it.
