So i asked my mom if she has my birth certificate, and to send it to me because I need it for AOS. She said she doesn't have it. She said it's not important in China and no one ever has one. So my Xiao Ah Yi (her sister) went to the hospital and got it for me. They made it such a long story about how she had to travel hours just to get it, blah blah blah. Hoping that I will be grateful. Instead of feeling grateful, I'm actually kind of mad at them. How could they let me not have a birth certificate all this time?! I thought my mom has it in the safety deposit in the bank!

So my aunt needs to bring it to the government to have it certified. Do Chinese birth certificates need to be certified?? Or the paper from the hospital can do it? Can I bring that paper here to US and find a translator to write a translation for me? Or does it have to go through the Chinese government first?

Our family are immigrants and I grew up in Manila Philippines, though born in China . We are permanent residents in Philippines and hold an ICR card instead.

They have my birth certificate in hand right now but failed to have it certified because they needed identifications from both parents. My mom sent hers (copy of her passport). My dad's has a problem. They are separated and somehow when he came to Philippines, he got another name and it's not the one he is using anymore. My mom of course didn't skip a beat to use that as a fact to put him down as usual, saying that his name is fake and got a fake passport, etc, so now he can't prove himself to save me.

I can't believe how something as easy as a birth certificate for everyone else be so difficult for me!!! FML.

HELP PLS!

ug. usually a chinese birth certificate is made 'at the office' (not in the hospital)

by showing a hukuo book.

It doesn't have to be YOU that shows the hukuo book, it could be ANY FAMILY MEMBER that is LISTED in the HUKUO book.

Did you ever have a HUKUO book, and is there anyone still in China WITH a Hukuo book, listing your name in it?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thanks, I will email them and ask about it. It's because we left China when I was five and haven't been living in China ever since. Let me see if anyone would have a HuKou with my name on it. And this would serve as an alternative to my copy of the birth certificate??

Not at all. It's use to acquire a birth certificate 'at that office'
