Since I'm less than a month from the interview I'm considering just waiting to pick up my SSC until I can show them my green card, since I won't have any of this "have to verify with USCIS" nonsense and my card won't have the "only valid for work with USCIS approval". It's also a good hour's drive to the nearest SSA office in Fort Worth.

This pre-supposes that I'll received the EAD before the interview, which I may not. I can't say I'm too bothered about it right now. I'd rather have the interview and no EAD than have the EAD and no interview.

That's cool! I went yesterday and they said it's gonna take up to 3 to 6 weeks for the USCIS to verify my immigration status. :crying:

Did you get the letter which says that your SSN has been ordered and it will take 14 days to arrive?

I have heard of the issue you mention for those who arrived on a K1 or CR/IR-1 visa who attempted to get a SSN within days or weeks of arrival and their names were not in the system, but if you have your EAD, you should already be in the "system". If you didn't get the 14 day/2 week letter, then perhaps try a different SSA Office.

I called them today again, one of the officer said he sent me a letter yesterday after I left.

So I assume that's the letter you're talking about?

Thanks for the info anyway

Interview experience!

Hey all, very interesting interview experience today, not particularly good or bad, just interesting.

1. We arrived last but were called first, I guess because our form was put to the top of the pile by virtue of arriving last?

2. We were made to swear we would tell the whole truth (kinda reminded me of A Few Good Man)

3. The IO warned us that due to my husband being from MO and me residing in MD and the two of us moving to NJ, he was unsure if he would have jurisdiction to make a final decision but that he would process the interview as if he had jurisdiction.

4. We were asked simple questions about each other, dates of birth, birth places etc, the IO was particularly interested in making sure we were financially independent.

5. The evidence we provided was pretty flimsy, by virtue of us not having moved in together yet (move-in date is this Friday). We provided photos of our courtship, a joint bank account statement, car insurance with both of us on it, and a lease in his name and a utilities registration for the same address in mine.

6. There was a slight problem when the IO looked at my passport only to discover that the immigration official who processed me through LAX back in 2003 on a J1 visa did not fill in the stamp properly and so the IO needs to verify that I entered legally on said J-1 visa, dang.

7. He told us that he does not usually make decisions straight away and that he would have to check my J-1 status and where jurisdiction lay before making a decision. He told us to expect one between 6 and 8 weeks but that it would most likely happen sooner than that.

So, all in all, it lasted 45 minutes, husband and I had some personal things in common with the IO and so there was about 30% shooting the breeze, 70% interview.

Right now I'm in limbo, my applications for EAD and AP were approved but I have no idea about my green card status and so there will be no planning of a honeymoon for us just yet :-( I thought I had gotten over my obsessive checking of the USCIS website to check for status updates, but it would appear that the curse has struck again! I'll update when I hear something.

Wishing you all a better, smoother experience but with an IO as nice as ours, he was lovely!

I am pretty sure that it will take the IO very little time to verify your legal entry into the country and as for the jurisdiction, this should be moot for two reasons: 1) It is about where you currently live, not were you will be living. 2) This is a Federal matter, not a state issue, their decision is binding across all States, not just in the state that the decision was issued.

I would be surprised if you didn't hear something much sooner than the 6-8 week timeframe, never mind though, you are not alone in the obsessive re-checking of the USCIS website; I had my interview yesterday and was told that I was approved by the IO (had my I-94 taken, told about the ROC and to expect my GC in 2-3 weeks-- when asked, she reiterated that I was approved)-- but still no update on the website :bonk:

Hears hoping you get a response soon :)

Got my EAD card in the mail today  , it says on the bottom "Serves as I-512 Advance Parole" does that mean I can leave to visit Canada? :)

Yes it does, provided you have not accrued more than 180 days of overstay (and even if so, it seems a new decision means you can do that anyway).

I got my EAD/AP also :) Going to the SSA and the GMV tomorrow - the GMV said I didn't need a SSN for the state ID. Costs 28 bucks in Wisco, you don't need a photograph, if anyone was wondering. Just a proof of address (and it can be just a letter from the USCIS), your I94, passport (with visa), EAD and 28 bucks. Don't forget your marriage certificate if you're a lady who changed her name and got the immigration papers issued in the new one. I'm excited! People will finally stop gasping at my ID every time I enter a bar :D

2012

Apr. 4 - Filed AOS package
Apr. 6 - 4 NOAs
Apr. 18 - Biometrics appointment notice for May 14.
Apr. 24 - online status changed to Request for Initial Evidence (pesky tax transcripts)
Apr. 28 - RFE notice arrived in the mail
Apr. 30 - Responded to RFE
May 3 - Online status changed to "Request for Evidence Response Review"
May 9 - Successful early walk-in biometrics in Milwaukee
June 5 - Online status changed to "Testing and Interview" - Interview date: July 11. Online interview location: NBC
June 6 - EAD/AP card in production; NOA 2 in the mail. Interview location: local office
June 12 - EAD/AP picked up by USPS
June 14 - EAD/AP in the mail
June 15 - applied for a SSN
June 22 - got SSN
July 11 - Interview - approved on the spot!
August 8 - online status changes to approval. GC should arrive in "up to 60 days". Yah, we're out of plastic in Wisco.

2014

June 3 - filed for ROC

June 25 - NOA1

Sometime mid July - the letter for biometrics came in, while I was abroad; I pushed the date back to August

Sometime in August - biometrics on the right day, didn't go for early

August 25 - RFE, deadline Nov 14

Nov 10 - sent out RFE response

Nov 19 - card ordered, no interview

Nov 30 - green card arrived

Hi!

Can u tell us about why ur stamp was not properly filled ? what was missing???

Hey,

The problem was, the stamp from the official didn't have the "J1" under visa status or the date (or D/S) under allowed until. It was pretty much a blank stamp, d'oh!

still no update on the website....
