It used to be that when a GC interview was approved they would immediately put an I-551 stamp in your passport. It serves as temporary evidence of a green card until the real thing arrives in the mail.

These days they do not do automatic stamps in the passport because the GC comes quite quickly once they approve you. You can request an I-551 stamp following a successful interview, but you will probably have to make an Infopass to get it.

In all likelihood you will have your GC in your hands by July anyway, and won't need to worry about AP or getting an I-551 stamp.

OK thanks for the info :)

I will be moving to a different state the day after the interview, so I'll try to get that stamp just to be sure, in case something gets lost in the mail. Hoping I can get them to change the address during the interview (I know I'm also supposed to file that form out etc)... but maybe I can tell them to send the green card to my new (my husband's) address...

I would probably bring the completed change of address form to your interview, it certainly wouldn't hurt. :)

Since someone else had done this in another thread, I figured I would call the FBI to see if they had processed my fingerprints taking during biometrics.

I talked to a nice lady (they picked up instantly; an unknown in the federal government from my experience) and she knew what I was talking about immediately. She asked for my alien number, DOB and full name, and told me that my fingerprints were checked and the results returned to USCIS the same day they were taken (7th May).

She said there were no problems with them, but as I understand it they won't tell you whether anything turned up so I assume she meant that all the images were clear and they were able to run them through the system without issue.

Anyway, if anyone feels like giving them a call they are open M-F 8am - 7pm Eastern (I think that's what the message said) and can be contacted at 304-625-5590. I believe the menu options were 2 (for immigration-related inquiries) then 9 (to talk to an operator) and I was on the line perhaps 3 minutes total.

Hi all,

All these interview NOAs (Congrats to those who got them) have me thinking ....complicated question here:

We are in the process of moving from the midwest to outside of Baltimore. When we filed I-130 for Part C question 22 "Your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status to that of a lawful permanent resident at the USCIS office in:"

we answered Baltimore, MD because the closest office to where we live is over 300miles away but we often go to Baltimore to visit so much easier to make a vacation out of it at least.

We were hoping they would schedule the GC interview in Baltimore??? Will they ?

I cannot submit a change of address yet, it will be a month before our housing is ready. I would hate to have to fly back to the midwest for an interview.

Any ideas what we should do? Should I call and ask where they plan on scheduling the interview?

Oh, no touches since 4/11 by the way, is that normal ???

I really recommend you to wait until you do your interview, | think you will have your interview letter soon, they will assign you to Baltimore office, because this is where you belong when you filed your package. if you tried to change the address I dont know if they will change your local office as well. what I understand, when you file your package they will mail it from NBC to the local office after they make sure that your application and the package are complete, so any changes will take more time.

We filed from the midwest so technically our local office is in South Dakota ... is that where they will schedule the interview or will they schedule it in Baltimore because that's what we put in part C question 22 on I-130 ?
