No waiting any more!!!...

Posted (edited)

I guess I have to wait a little longer for a US-issued ID. The Texas Department of Public Safety would not accept my documents today when i went to apply for an ID card, so I have to wait for my EAD (which will probably serve as ID by itself, nullifying why I wanted the ID card in the first place).

Ouch. I figured that would happen but it's different from state to state, so I hoped you would get lucky. Most states require proof of residency now for ID, which means waiting for your green card, some will take the EAD though.

I was knocked back at the first hurdle since I couldn't even prove my identity. Their site had said I could use an expired visa and I-94 to prove it, but the expired visa was also in my expired passport and the lady said that while the visa could be expired the passport had to be valid and the I-94 current. Since my new passport had no stamps of any kind in it then it was not acceptable for proof of anything.

I told her I would have my EAD in a couple of months and she said that is useful because it serves as both proof of identity and proof of legal status all in one. Oh well, I figured I would get tripped up somewhere. At least it wasn't a long wait, I was in and then out of the door in less than 2 minutes since it was deserted.

Everybody's case is different. There could be a back-log at your local ASP that is causing the delay-- I would probably wait one more week before giving them a call.

Yeah, I had to wait about 3 weeks for mine. I actually avoided the forums, cause it was hard to watch everyone else getting their letters so quickly, while I was waiting, waiting, waiting... Hang in there. Perhaps you could check out the projected timeline for your USCIS office, to give you a better idea how long your wait might be. look here: timelinestats

No, we are in south Alabama, his appt was in New Orleans. Fairly smooth experience, a small bit of a wait, but mostly because my husband insisted on getting there 40 minutes early.
