I was wondering can the Petitioner certify the translation of documents. I am certified biligual in english and spanish. I was wondering if I certify my Beneficiary paperwork myself.

I am also a Notary Public.

I was told I needed a Certified Translator, if you need one, I can send you the phone number and details of the one I used for my papers translation.

What is your question? Can you do your own translation? Sorry just trying to figure out what you are asking.

If it helps I did my own translation and my mother signed off on it.

But since you are doing K-1 I am sure not what you need a translation for..

Yeah. I am asking if I could do my own translations, for letter of intent, birth certificate etc.. without having to have someone else signing off on it.

Nowhere says you are not able to do this and many members on here have done it themselves without any problems. I have seen very few cases where uscis does not accept it so that is why I had my mom sign off on it even though I did it myself.

Also if you are submitting these docs directly to the embassy at the time of interview they do not need to be translated. For uscis they do.

You were misinformed. USCIS does not required a "Certified Translator." USCIS only needs the translator to certify that the translation is accurate, and anyone can be the translator.

I've translated documents for my family that was accepted by USCIS. I am an ordinary person. I am not a "Certified Translator."

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

You being a Notary Public does not matter.

Be careful when you run into the term "certified copy." It has a very narrow meaning when you are dealing with immigration matters. A certified copy MUST come from the government agency in charge of keeping the records. You cannot take an original and make a "certified copy" that would be acceptable for the K-1 process.

For example, USCIS requires an original or certified copy of your fiancee's birth certificate. You cannot make a "certified copy" as a Notary Public. The "certified copy" must come from the government agency in charge of keeping that record in your fiancee's country. This "certified copy" will have all the stamps from the government agency. You can do the translation of the certified copy and certify the translation, but you can't photocopy and certify anything as a copy for the purposes of making a "certified copy" to file with USCIS.

Thanks for the info. Yeah no i am not trying to make any certified copies of anything. I was just wondering about being able to certify that my own paperwork is an accurate translatation and the I myself tranlated said document. Thats the only reason why I bought up the whole Notary thing.
