Michael Kinsley famously referred to a “gaffe” as a moment when a politician accidentally tells the truth. E&E brings us a hilarious example today (sadly behind a paywall).

You may recall that that other day, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held the four-gazillionth hearing on Solyndra and the DOE’s clean-energy loan-guarantee program, during which lawmakers spent their time repeatedly badgering DOE Secretary Steven Chu to give himself a letter grade. Yes, really.

At this point, everyone knows that there’s not going to be any wrongdoing uncovered. After over a year of investigations, many thousands of pages of documents, testimony from dozens of people, a half-dozen hearing, there’s … nothing.

The investigation has long since become about hurting Obama’s election chances and discrediting clean energy. It’s a political disagreement masquerading as a show trial.

Anyway, everyone knows this, including the journalists who cover it, but you’re not really supposed to say so out loud. So … oopsie:

There you have it.

You mean there is a political agenda in an election year to showing that Obama wasted our tax dollars? Who'da thunk it?

Kind of reminds of when the same committee, chaired by Democrats in 2008 (another election year, imagine that!), brought the oil executives up there to be grilled by Democrats as to why the oil prices were so high. Remember? You would think Democrats would be doing the same now. Especially since gasoline is twice as expensive as when Obama took office.

How about the monthly body counts of soldiers ending when Obama became president? Remember how the House was always trying to de-fund the war? Then stopped when Obama got elected?

How about Dems demanding a balanced budget until they get a Dem President and now no budget for three years? Could there be political games being played? D'ya think?

And you think we should elect MORE of these guys? More Dems or Republicans?

And here I thought you were going to say the TRUTH about Solyndra was that they really did NOT waste half a billion dollars, really did NOT lay off all their employees, and really did NOT waste our money on a non-existant market. Dammit.

Instead we see that they really DID waste our money, lay off all their employees and siphon tax dollars into a non-existant market but the only reason the government is telling us is to hurt another political party. Otherwise we would just not know about it because the party that made the mistake would not admit it (regardless which party it was)

Good thing there is at least a political aggenda to expose this sort of waste.

If the issue was over the money spent, lets start with all those bloated Defense contracts that we've dumped billions of dollars into, many of which still continue. No, these investigations by the partisan hacks was to find the smoking gun that the Obama Administration did something improper and/or illegal concerning this contract and no smoking gun was found. But I doubt that will stop yahoos from continually lying about the supposed Solyndra scandal. Ho-hum.
