Filing Taxes While Waiting for AOS

I suck at taxes and I'm trying to work my way through the US tax system. So my story is, I moved to the US in November 2011. Got married in January 2012 to a US citizen and we're now waiting for EAD/AP/AOS. My husband and I are not sure if I have to file taxes for USA for 2011. Obviously without EAD I haven't made any income so I wouldn't owe any taxes, but I don't know if my husband and I choose to file separately if I have to send in anything. I've already file my taxes for Canada for 2011. I have my SSN. I asked an accountant but they only know taxes for citizens and people who already have their green cards--not for people stuck waiting like those of us waiting for AOS.

If you had married in 2011 you could file joint taxes with your husband and he could get a large refund, but since you married in 2012, he can't do that. You were only in the US for 2 months or less, you earned no income, and you were not a resident, so you are not required to file taxes.

You can't file jointly for 2011 because you did not get married until Jan of 2012.

We weren't considering joint filing until 2012 tax year. He would still get that credit next year right? So I don't have to send in anything for the 2011 year, correct? Thanks for the help, last thing I want to do is make the IRS mad. :-)
