Victory for Civil Rights

Liberal/Progressive faculty members at the University of Vermont (UVM) long opposed to freedom of speech, freedom of choice, and independence for women, had passed a resolution demanding the school withdraw its sports coverage from local radio station WVMT, AM620.

The stattion also carries the Rush Limbaugh Show from 12 noon to 3 pm each day part of the 6000 station network and 20 million listeners of Limbaugh.

The faculty made the demand in response to Limbaugh recent support of women having control of their own birth control choices as opposed to asking a legislative committee composed of elderly white men to pay for contraceptives for women. Spoecifically they objected to hs charactarization of a 30 year college educate adult woman that came before the Senate Committee to testify that she cold not afford the birth control pills necessary for her sex habit and wants congress to mandate all insurance companies to cover these for no charge.

The faculty of UVM does not believe adult edcuated women can do this for themselves.

The adminstration, by a letter from the newly installed President declined to withdraw the contract for WVMT to cover sports for UVM. While he acknowledged he also agreed that adult women cannot make such decisions and felt Limbaughs support of independent women was "disgusting" he agreed that even Rush Limbaugh has freedom of speech. The former President of UVM recently resigned follwing a sex scandal involving his wife being involved with another faculty member whom she had directed funds to.

He encouraged other people that feel adult women should be dependent not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh's audiance has grown since he made the comments supporting independent women.
