My wife did it 6 days earlier than appointment, but only because of her work schedule.

Of course it does, it lets the USCIS know that the biometrics step of your file is complete and is ready to move on to the next step.

AOS from B1/B2:

January 12 - I-130 & I-485 Delivered

January 24 - Both checks cashed

January 26 - Both NoAs received

February 9 - Biometrics letter received

February 17 - Biometrics appointment

January 18 - Green Card Ordered (No Interview)

January 22 - Green Card Mailed

Of course it doesn't. The petition itself is still buried in a box at the Service Center and nothing will happen until it is time to pull that box out of storage for adjudication.

On the biometrics letter ASC puts a stamp, stating that they have processed your biometrics on the date you walked in. It is automatically sent to the USCIS and as soon as they receive clearance from FBI, they continue to review/send RFE/interview/approve/deny.

The stamp with a new date overrides the original appointment date and speeds up the process (not by much, but 2-3 weeks for some people is important).

Thank you :) Hope you get your letter soon! Mine was dated two days after my request, not sure if it was a coincidence or if the request actually sped it up.

Obviously the system doesn't run perfectly and many issues exist with missing NOAs and lost RFE response packages, even approvals that were forgotten to be sent to the applicants. There are people with denied applications because they didn't have clear background, and those who reschedule and have to wait forever for the review. I read posts from former IOs and insiders who explained the process and said that early biometrics speed up the review of the application. They pull the completed files for the further process one by one and assign to a specific officer. Leftovers are denied for not showing up at the ASC. Then they move to the next month. Then it depends on the officer who works on your file. Many would reschedule for more convenient dates and not worry about delays if it would run independently.

I am just reposting what I know and would recommend to do early walk-in if possible. It might help (2-3 weeks) or may not if the assigned officer is lazy, suspects anything or went on vacations. Then the time you saved won't play much role.

AOS from B1/B2:

January 12 - I-130 & I-485 Delivered

January 24 - Both checks cashed

January 26 - Both NoAs received

February 9 - Biometrics letter received

February 17 - Biometrics appointment

January 18 - Green Card Ordered (No Interview)

January 22 - Green Card Mailed

Thank you :) Hope you get your letter soon! Mine was dated two days after my request, not sure if it was a coincidence or if the request actually sped it up.

I was under the impression that they review your application independently from what's going on with biometrics and background checks. IIRC there is someone in this forum that ended up with their application approved, but no GC yet cause their biometrics are pending.

I also had a somewhat similar issue happen to me doing AOS, according to the IO at my local USCIS office my EAD had been approved but I did not receive the card because they forgot to schedule biometrics (and I did get the card right after I had my appointment).

Absolutely. The bio doesn't even go into your paper file which is already collecting dust waiting for adjudication, it's just a computer record. Does not change your "priority date", it's still NOA date which counts.

You may have noticed that USCIS processing times are based on the dates application was received, not on biometrics done date. If some people like to believe it is otherwise and early bio speeds up the process, that's fine with me.

Of course if no bio has been completed at the time your case is coming out of the storage ready for adjudication, this will delay the processing.

I agree that early bio doesn't speed anything up. If you look at timelines from previous months, people who did early bio do not get approved any faster than those who didn't. I wouldn't waste my time attempting early bio and risking being turned away, unless I really couldn't make my scheduled appointment.

Approval time depends on the officer and NOTHING ELSE. :D Bio moves the case into the officer hands.
