Part 7, section A: How many total days did you spend outside of the United States during the past 5 years?

I arrived in the US soil September 4, 2008 on a fiancee's visa and has not left the USA since. Calculating from the day of my arrival until the day I file my N-400 (Sept. 4, 2008-April 2, 2012) would only give me 3years and 7months in the USA. Should I write the number of days comprising the 1 year and few months before I came here as days spent outside the United States in the past 5 years?

I used the date calculator website http://www.timeandda...te/dateadd.html and you calculate from the day you arrived here.

I applied based on 3 years married with my USC hubby and I did the math based on 5 years (actually for us applying based on 3 years it should be 3 years). I had interview yesterday and she just corrected it.

You are applying based on marriage to a USC, correct? You could have filed at 2 years 275 days (90 days before the 3 year mark) but did not. You are using a form that all kinds of people have to use that typically must have been in the US for 5 years. Write the number of days outside the US since becoming a LPR--the time outside the US before your LPR status does not count for anything. So you enter the total number of days outside the US with exact dates of any trip of 24 hours or more. If that number is zero than enter zero. So you need to read the question as "How many days have you spent outside the US since becoming a LPR?" And enter that number. They will have your file handy (that is why you enter the A#) and you answer Part 2 with "B" so they know you have been in the US for at least 3 years.

I will just enter 0 on the question then.

Dave, my permanent residency actually started July 1, 2009 (based on what my GC says) so I am right on mark. My window of eligibility to apply for naturalization will not open until April 2 (90 days prior to the 3 year mark of my permanent residency) and I will send my application first week of April.
