Calling me dishonerable. Argumentum ad Hominem.

Special interests ALWAYS pretend it is everyone but themselves they are pushing their special interest legislation for. Guilt-tripping everyone for all their hard work just for us!

Excellent!

Two "minimizers" in there: "only offended" and "just a name" coupled with selective attention. All you have to do is put the words "just" and "only" in there and you make someone's concern disappear. You "only" raped me or "just" sold me to a foreigner as a sex slave. But it isn't an argument. It is called a "defense mechanism", under the category of Denial. You deny it by belittling it.

Selective attention means you ignore the only concern I actually raised which was the spreading of disinformation on behalf of those special interest groups the poster mentioned. The title is the most efficient means of doing that, and it is trivially so. With a mere one word difference, all that misinformation. I don't have to be so stupid as to give "credit" to someone working against me. I do not recall putting you in charge of what my interests are either. So you can't tell me that you know my interests better than I do.

The name is not an accident. There will be different versions of bills in the house and senate, numerous hearings in subcommittees for both, conference committee after that - stupendous numbers of hours in testimony at hearings over an entire legislative session - at least one, maybe more - with the president of every special interest group testifying, droning on and on about everything under the sun pertaining to the act... and not once does anybody think hey - we should call the Act what it actually IS instead of naming it for these people testifying in front of us. Sheer monumental coincidence. So counter-intuitive too.

This is by definition "political correctness" or the default position, which is women first in this case. And before you get your panties all in a wad over it, it is an intellectual point for me only and not anything worth the slightest real effort of mine to change. Because they can have their propaganda, special interest legislation and all - I'm going to make my own way in the world. I just don't have to put up with someone pissing down my back and telling me it's raining. :D

 Making me dizzy with your long-winded argument that does not erase the fact that MEN, women and children EQUALLY benefit from the VAWA.

But But... this is already a done deal. 'They' named it without consulting you or me. Neither of us made any input during the time for 'submissions by the public' which this bill had. Where where you? what were you doing? I certainly wasn't paying attention then..

Let it roll, just this once, aye?

Thanks for coming to my aid Darnell.

Which explains exactly why the name is biased towards women. Thanks for the help in proving my point.

You mean the gender-biased groups you refer to were prevented from getting the act applied exclusively to them. It isn't you I should be thanking for keeping special interest groups in check.

And it really is that simple

Though your point is clear it will be lost to feminists.

If you find the contents of that link offensive, then you do not deserve to have a wife or daughters or they will be second class citizens in your house.

I can neither deny nor confirm any emotional reaction to that link.

Can I still have my Fiance and 3 Daughters and continue to hold them as the African Queens of my domain as I have been?

Pretty please. I beg of you Madam.

Think of the children.

Of course you may - oh your majesty  . As long as you treat them with respect and afford them the same rights and privilges as you would your sons and brothers. And when you do that, hopefully no one will accuse you of being a feminist for wanting the following for them: equal opportunity to education, voting, property rights, the right to not be sexually harrased or abused for being women, equal pay for equal work, and other gender equality issues.

Very well then. Rounds of beers (or other non alcoholic fascimile thereof) for everyone in the house :D

I would still sue for child support, or at least lodge the complaint. It will follow her around. Friends of mine are 23 and 27 and their dad is STILL paying child support because there is so much back-pay. You could also have them garnish her wages if she gets a job and doesn't pay. All sorts of things. Speak to someone about it.

The evidence of her saying she just wants the GC and then will leave you and take the baby is GREAT evidence. You're right the wheels of justice are sometimes slow. Make sure you tell your divorce attorney that she is filing a false VAWA claim. Perhaps show him the evidence of HER behaviour. Maybe it will show HER abuse of you. If she was so unhappy she could have left to be with her BF and instead she's talking pics of herself.. IN FACT... now I think about it. If you have copies of those pics it will show she doesn't have any bruises or other injuries that substantiate her "abuse" claim. Maybe call ICE and talk to them about that (if you haven't already sent them those pics).

I don't think she has any grounds to claim financial support or anything like that but she IS entitled to file. I would hope your attorney would file paperwork stating that you are owed fees because she's filing frivolous claims just to make you pay legal fees and waste your time..

Can they grant child support to some one who is out of status? I would just wash my hands of this situation and not worry about the loss.

For more clarity -

bills get put on the calendar because an interest group and/or PAC was successful in helping to draft the legislation with the Congressman that they're dealing with. It was not just one women's group - there was a coalition of women's groups at the time. I think rLogan is outta line on this one, thinking somehow there's a personal attack mixed in, veiled in the ether. I didn't read it that way, at all - I sense there was some explanation made (mostly) with a little bit of righteous indignation thrown in (for good measure) because you (rLogan) weren't aware of the timeline and history on how VAWA / Adam Walsh Act came into being. and that's ok - everyone learns something here at VJ.

No harm, no foul. calm the f down, rLogan (and thanks in advance)...

I agree. It's seems people tend to get offended alot when something wiggles the large chips they have on their shoulders. Just an observation in my short time here.

I'm perfectly calm, whereas you are not. Using curse words even, spelling them cleverly to conceal clear rule violations.

One harm is the spread of misinformation through the title. The other harm is a tactic of abusive people: Re-establish what the definition of "equal treatment" is: You are excluded from the title (not treated equally) and should be grateful we allowed to apply it to you at all. Get used to being treated unequally and being ridiculed for objecting.

Notice how not one person is defending naming it for women only? :) It's belittling and ad-homs in opposition. Cursing.

I looked a little bit for good data on this, but the best we actually have is on VisaJourney, and it appears to be overwhelmingly women beneficiaries, and a lot of scammers at that. Networks of people that know the system, coaching new ones just arriving. Same information on other immigration-oriented sites too. So it's application seems not only to be benefiting women disproportionately but that domestic men, much more of them anyway, are getting abused by false VAWA claims of foreign scam artists. But they're mostly women scammers I guess, so that's cool.

I couldn't care less exceopt as an intellectual point, which is why its funny to see the "calm down" shrieking and cursting. I'm not going to lift a finger for other men. I got my hands full takin' care of just one man. I do not have equal rights because of this act. Women did not give that to me, most especially not the feminists. Hahaha! Silly argument.

rlogan- don't forget, name calling and cursing is also done when a person hits a certain level of exasperation with another human. That's what happened with me here, you've exasperated me based on your diatribes (plural) concerning a topic that doesn't affect you. Enough already, aye?

Ongoing question regarding my case to get back on topic (thanks everyone for your inputs).

Will my case ever be investigated to the point that I get contacted by a VAWA agent or ICE agent? If so, will this case necessarily go before an immigration court judge?

Any experience with such folks? How long do people think this process will take?

Thanks in advance.

well, if you set an appointment at the local USCIS office, and asked for the ICE section head, then you'd be having a convo with an ICE agent.

Otherwise, no.

VAWA stuff? they never contact you - it's on the applicant to handle that prove-up.

as to 'the process' - uhm - what process are you attempting, exactly?
