Packet 3 for Dominican Republic?

Hi VJ'ers,

Just got off the phone with SDO embassy to see if a date was scheduled for interview. Said case was still open. What does that mean? Couldn't give me a date but said packet 3 was sent to my fiance on March 13 and may take up to a month for him to receive(why so long?). The agent also said interview date could possibly be in the packet 3 with instructions and maybe request for more info. My understanding was there was no packet 3, just packet 4 and that I could get interview date over the phone. I went to the site to check to see if dates beyond April were posted but they only have March and April. What other way can I find out if an interview date was scheduled?

You are right in DR there is no packet 3 but the ppl at the dept of state don't seem to all be on the same page.. There is a packet 4 that will be sent out to ur fiance and you may even get one. So when they tell you about a packet 3 jus say ok cuz I've explained to those ppl that DR doesn't use this damn packet but they don't seem to get it. And as far as you knowing your interview date just keep calling them and hopefully you'll get Chris or Brian on the phn that can give accurate info or you can cal the embassy but they'll just tell you the same thing as dept of state..but Geneva and the other chicks aren't very helpful..

Thank you sooo much! I really thought that there had been a snag in the process. I actually paid the $7 to call what I thought was the embassy in DR. Will def keep those names in mind next time I call. I will tell fiance to be on look out for packet.

I also sent an email to embassy and got a reply back saying interview might be in May but no date as of yet.

Can you tell me how soon should he get his police certificates? He needs one for DR and Haiti. How long are they good for and does he need one for each town he's lived in or is there a national one?

I spoke with someone from the embassy after paying the $7. The person I spoke to didn't have a date but said packet 3 had been sent to my fiance on March 13 and that it takes up to a month for him to receive it. The agent said The interview date may/should be in there along with other instructions. Also said case was still open. I spoke with a visa specialist at DOS, on Monday, who said case was pending and that was about all the information they had.

The main reason I want to know the interview date is my job contract is due for extension and I want to include a week off in it for the interview. I will wait another week and if nothing I will have to extend and take days off no matter. I want my baby here!

Yea what MrTee12 said...but the only thing that I can add is that DOS can and will give you your interview once the embassy logs it in the system and that will save you the $7 for the same info.

N'Awlins is home but I'm a healthcare professional currently working in Los Angeles.

First, if your application is accepted by USCIS you will received a NOA1 with receipt number. Then wait patiently for them to review your petition. If all goes smoothly you will get approved in 1-6 months. If you get an Request for Evidence(RFE) tack on another 2 weeks, depending on how quickly you respond. Once you're approved, you get a NOA2 notice from USCIS stating your case is being forwarded to NVC and then to consulate of finace's country. Wait about a week and call NVC to get your case number, however, NVC will send you a notice that they have received your petition with your unique number. You may get NVC notice before NOA2 notice.

In the meantime, gather all your evidence for ongoing relationship. This is very important for the interview(emails, text messages, photos, phone records, boarding passes, airline tickets, passport/stamps etc). Also get all original documents you will need for interview. If a new passport is needed get that now.

Go to the Dominican Republic portal and read through the posts. Very informative!!! Also whenever you have a question come to VJ and ask and you will get an answer and if members don't know they will direct you to where you can find it. No question goes unanswered and no question is too small or silly or whatever...if you need an answer, ask the question!

VJ members are very supportive and will give a lot of guidance! Remember, we're all in same boat here...
