K1+K2 visas: - what's next steps if visas approved

Hi, VJers

First of all I would like to thank all VJers for your valuable info on this website. I already got my interview appointment letter for K1/K2 visa from consulate in Hochiminh city, Vietnam and my 4 years-old daughter will accompany with me to USA if our visas are approved. My fiancé and me plan to get married within 1 month since the day I arrive the US. We will live in Houston,TX.

My questions are:-

- What I and my daughter should do since arrival the US?

- After getting married, what are next steps? How much cost we (me and my daughter) will spend more from arrival the US until getting GC?

- Will my 4 years–old daughter get GC like my own?

- I will change my first name in accordance with my future husband’s first name. What should I do?

- My future husband wants to adopt my daughter and we would change her first name, too. What kind of paperworks I need to fill up?

Too many question, I guess. :help::help: It will be very highly appreciated for your all valuable replies (F)(F)

Best regards

J&J

My fiancé and me plan to get married within 1 month since the day I arrive the US. We will live in Houston,TX.

My questions are:-

1. What I and my daughter should do since arrival the US?

2. After getting married, what are next steps? How much cost we (me and my daughter) will spend more from arrival the US until getting GC?

3. Will my 4 years–old daughter get GC like my own?

4. I will change my first name in accordance with my future husband’s first name. What should I do?

5. My future husband wants to adopt my daughter and we would change her first name, too. What kind of paperworks I need to fill up?

1. File AOS. You should get a SSN. Read the guides.

2. Depends on whether your medicals are complete but you will spend $1070 for you and your daughter will be $635 if filed at the same time.

3. yes

4. You mean LAST name (or surname or family name). You are changing your LAST name (surname/family name). Make sure you do what is required when you get married to get that done. Sometimes you need to declare that on the licence

5. Again LAST name. What you need to do depends on your state and what the child's fathers input is (name on birth cert etc).

Many of these questions are answered in the guides and on the form instructions. The adoption process should be handled by a lawyer.
