My wife and I are trying to plan a vacation (less than 30 days) to the Schengen Union countries of France, Italy, and Austria. As a U.S. Citizen, I know that I will not require a Visa. On the other hand, I cannot resolve whether my wife who is a Philippine Citizen but also a U.S. Permanent Resident will be required to get a Schengen Union Visa.

In some cases the Permanent Resident Card offers advantages and privileges equal to a U.S. Passport (like entry into Canada) but in other cases it doesn't. I haven't been able to find anything on Google that is specific to my question.

Someone out there that is a U.S. Citizen and married to a U.S. Permanent Resident (non U.S. Citizen) must have gone on a vacation to Europe. I'd appreciate learning from what they had to do and what they experienced both in the U.S. as well as the countries they visited.

Thank you.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

She will need a visa, visas go by country (with a couple of exceptions), not by residency.

Philippine citizens needs the visa to travel to Europe regardless of where they legally reside.
