COMMENTARY | Bristol Palin believes President Barack Obama should call her to apologize for the comments made about her by Bill Maher just as he called Sandra Fluke about the comments made about the law student by Rush Limbaugh, according to ABC News.

Palin has blogged about how the cases are similar, but the president is not calling her since she is a Republican and Maher made a $1 million contribution to the Democrat-run super PAC. As a political scientist, I have to applaud Palin for setting up a perfect catch-22 for the president.

Palin used her blog to point out how President Obama has not made statements about what was said about her by Maher but condemned Limbaugh for what he said about Fluke. She pointed out how the president made comments condemning the media during the last election for going after her but has stayed silent on this issue. She has taken herself from being mentioned in this controversy to being a player in it.

Due to Palin's blog, the ball is in President Obama's court. If he calls her, it will appear to be due to the pressure by the right to treat her the same way he treated Fluke. The former vice-presidential candidate's daughter made a statement in her blog about the president being the president of all Americans and not just Democrats.

If the president does not call her, it will solidify the thought he let Maher get away with the comments made due to the donation and the comedian's political leanings. It will show a double standard of how it is OK for a public figure to say anything he or she wants as long as he or she is a liberal and makes contributions toward the Democrat reelection funds.

We might see the buddings of a political career in the young Palin. She was able to send a challenge and set a trap at the same time for President Obama. While many politicians try to do this on a daily basis, few can be as successful as the young reality star could be. Bristol wins no matter what happens.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Limbaugh is a political hack, trying to pass off his political rants as entertainment, while Maher is a comedian who uses comedy to talk about politics. Maher has never had any influence on elected officials to where he could tell his 'ditto heads' to call their congressmen or tell them to vote. That's because he doesn't have ditto heads watching his show. Maher just happens to actually be funny. Limbaugh has turned into a cartoon of himself, but still full of angry-white-man disease.

It's pretty obvious Obama has two sets of rules. One set of rules for him and his lot and another set for the rest of us.

Steve are you sincerely claiming that certain entertainers can speak about women this way? BUt Rush can't.

You people have spent two decades trying to convince yourselves and everyone else that Rush is not to be taken seriously...... he is "Just an entertainer".

Now you're saying he is much more than an Entertainer.

This quoted original post is incorrect in it's philosophy.

There are different laws that apply to public personalities and private citizens in regards to the media and society making comments on them. Bristol Palin is seen as a public personality and thus open to criticism by the public and media. Fluke is a private citizen that provided testimony in a public way. She does not make her living off of the public spotlight as Bristol Palin and her Mother have. Those of us that are required to take Media Law know this. I wouldn't expect the political scientist who wrote this to know it, so I can see how they would get it wrong on calling it a "perfect catch 22". The situations are not equal in the eyes of the law.

This is one of the greatest misconceptions/misunderstandings about Rush Limbaugh. His popularity is not because his audience comprises mind-numbed robots; it's very precisely because he was the first talk-show host who said things that conservative folks were already thinking.

Furthermore, a "ditto-head" is someone who calls and says "Dittos, Rush" as a substitute for saying "Hey, Rush -- I love your show, yak yak yak." It saves time for discussion of issues.

It seems to me Dems can dish it but they can't take what they dish. Two sets of rules they like to play by instead of one rule for all. Comrade Stalin would be proud of that bunch.

Speaking of Stalin, wasn't he also into eliminating any opposition?

The dems do it in a sneaky sort of fashion. Everything people think, do or say that isn't what they consider politically correct is treated like an outcast. Our society is going to sh*t in a hand basket yet they don't care how fast our country goes to h*ll as long as they can control everyone and everything.

It's George Orwell's 1984 coming to fruition.
