Hi, quick question... Is it common for officers to check the house listed in person? I hadn't read anything about it but I just heard a story about them showing up late at night to verify that the couple was in fact together. Does this happen after the CR1 is issued? Before?

Thanks,

Are you both in USA?

Kind of need a little more info

In egypt home visits can be conducted before interview and after interview while in AP.

If you are both in USA then home visit can be done before you remove conditions or file AOS of fiance visa

I cannot answer you completely.

I do not know what your situation is

*** Moving from CR-1 to AOS from Work, Tourist, Student visa forum as OP and spouse married and both living in the USA- visas are used to enter countries ****

It's not common but yes, it happens, especially in cases like yours where the foreign spouse came on a non-immigrant visa (as a tourist, student etc) and then married and wants to stay. They want to make sure you are genuinely married, and did not commit visa fraud. It can happen before the interview, but more likely after if the officer has doubts.

Don't go overboard. Just live like you normally would. Believe it or not, some untidy evidence actually works in your favor. If the dishes from last night's dinner are in the sink then they'll know how many people dined there. If there's some soiled laundry in the basket then they'll know how many people do laundry there. They've even been known to check the sheets for telltale stains, and check the rubbish for used condoms...

They wouldn't be coming to take photos for Better Homes and Gardens magazine. They're looking for evidence that a married couple actually lives there.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!
