Any number of reasons. Some one else came in before her and was the perfect candidate and they hired him/her and canceled her appointment as to not waste each others times. Another manger saw her resume and said no. This stuff happens all the time. There is no longer any honor with employers these days. Do not be surprised if something like this happens again.

Just look at it as she did not waste time on going there, some HR people interviews candidates for the statistics, like they have to interview a number of candidates per day so even if you are not so promising in paper, since they need that number, they will call you and waste your time... this happens a lot with hiring agencies.

Or the vacancy could have suddenly disappeared. That happens a lot, especially in the current climate. All of a sudden the funding is pulled, and that vacancy dies.

Like the others have said, at least they didn't waste her time with an interview.
