No you don't, but, did you get married? You can't adjust status until you marry and receive your marriage certificate. So while you wait, apply for your social security.

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

On 3/26 you can go apply for the SS card, thats 10 days after arriving, it gives them time to have you in their system. The marriage certificate will need to be filed and you can go back to the courthouse to get a certified copy in a few days. You need the certified copy at the AOS interview. Congratulations on the wedding (F)

do u file a regular copy or a certified copy?

This is what the Guide here on VJ says:

A copy of your marriage certificate - Note: While a regular copy is allowed, submitting a certified copy is preferred as some members have received an RFE asking for this (so if one is available use that instead).

You turn in your completed and signed marriage license from your wedding to the court. The court will then issue you a certified marriage certificate. You can purchase extra copies there too. You only need to send in a copy of the certified marriage certificate you receive back from the court with your AOS. If you have an interview, take the original one you received from the court with you.

You do not need a social security number to file for AOS, but as others have said, you might as well go apply for it while you wait for your certified marriage certificate. You will need a social security number for many things in the US, like getting a drivers license, being added to bank accounts, insurance, etc.
