Unfortunately, you cannot go to your personal doctor or any other physician. Everyone applying for a visa most being examined by Consultorios de Visa physicians.

ASK THE CONSUL

I am applying for an immigrant visa and need to go for my medical examination. What should I expect at the medical examination? Can I have my personal doctor perform the medical exam?

The medical examination may not be done by your family doctor or any doctor other than the approved panel physician.

Yes, the exam is specific, but you could have vaccine done anywhere prior to exam... just bring up to date vaccine paperwork to medical for translation... if needed they could perform more vaccine, or finish them in the states before AOS. Medical should translate current vaccine paperwork at minimum, K1 does not require up to date vaccine for entry only for AOS.

But then consultorios de visa also says this:

" Traiga consigo toda documentación relativa a su historia inmunológica (cartilla de vacunas, records médicos, etc.) para asistir en determinar su estatus inmunologico. Si tiene alguna contraindicación por condición preexistente o alergias favor traer un informe de su medico tratante. "

Got it right off the website.

I understand what you're saying. However, the U.S. has to screen everyone for all the "listed hazardous medical conditions" (like the list mikili" posted). If your husband has any records of past "shots or vaccinations" he could bring them to avoid getting them again. But as you stated he doesn't have any records so its highly likely that they will require him to get all of the shots & vaccinations that fit his profile. I don't think there's any other way around it. I may be wrong, but I haven't heard of anyone who was "exempt" from getting these vaccinations (unless there was some sort of health risk involved).

K1 Visa Process -> 12/09-06/10 Married -> 09/10/10 AOS Process -> 09/10-12/10 Removal of Conditions-> 09/12-07/13

U.S. Naturalization -> 7/8/20

That is what I mean. I am trying to have him save money on the vaccines he needs to get. I know the vaccines are mandatory I just want to avoid the fees of Colsultorios de visa is possible in terms of vaccines. That is why I wanted to know which ones are absolutely necessary.

Vaccines

The Immigration and Nationality Act requires that all immigrant visa applicants obtain certain vaccinations before receiving an immigrant visa.

If you are applying for a K or V visa, vaccines are optional. However, it is often more convenient if you are vaccinated while still in the Dominican Republic.

http://santodomingo.usembassy.gov/examination-vaccines-e.html

This should help out with this part of the discussion but I am still not sure if you could have the vaccinations done with another doctor and bring you paperwork with you to Consultorios De Visa. I know it says that for my visa it is optional but if I could do it there and get it over with, it is one less thing to worry about. :help: :help: :help:

YES, bring in current vaccine to medical, including vaccine taken 10 years or 1 week before medical... this will be used to determine what is still needed before AOS.

This is for K-1 visas:

4.3.5)...What vaccinations are required and is it better to have had these done prior to the interview at the embassy?

A...The actual list of vaccinations given to the fiance(e) is rather long, and US government agencies publish these lists, however, depending on your age and previous history, you may only need a few of them, perhaps none at all.

A....When you go for your medical exam, the doctor there can help you determine what vaccinations (if any) you will require. You can opt to have them there, (at additional cost) or you can get them at a later date from your own doctor or clinic. You will have to have them by the time your adjustment of status is complete so you can even get them in the US if that is more convenient for you.

This is for CR-1 visas:

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICANTS CONCERNING VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below) prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis B

Influenza

Influenza type b (Hib)

Measles

Meningococcal

Mumps

Pneumococcal

Pertussis

Polio

Rotavirus

Rubella

Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids

Varicella

In order to assist the panel physican, and to avoid delays in the processing of an immigrant visa, all immigrant visa applicants should have their vaccination records available for the panel physician's review at the time of the immigrant medical examination. Visa applicants should consult with their regular health care provider to obtain a copy of their immunization record, if one is available. If you do not have a vaccination record, the panel physician will work with you to determine which vaccinations you may need to meet the requirement. Certain waivers of the vaccination requirement are available upon the recommendation of the panel physician.

This is implying that you can have the vaccines done at a your doctor but you need to bring you your records from there to the medical. Make sure that you let them know the vaccines are for a US visa and that you would need a copy of the records to take with you to your medical. I am still not 100% sure (maybe about 75% sure now).

I will tell you my experience, which I did not look ahead to the AOS. To enter on a K1, NO vaccinations are required and I thought I would just have it all done here in the USA for my wife and her daughter. She had all of the records which I had translated. I was able to get all the vaccinations for her daughter free through the health department. My wife not so easy and ended up paying for the ones she was lacking. Now the hard part of it, finding a civil surgeon to complete JUST the vaccination portion of the I-693, most of them I contacted would not just do the vaccination records and wanted to do a full physical again, even after explaining the requirements to them. One wanted $150.00 each to do the paperwork PLUS the cost of the vaccinations. I ended up driving 3 hours to a clinic and was charged $20.00 each for the papers and a reasonable amount for the vaccinations.

My advice, get what is lacking done there, before or at the medical exam. Make sure you get a photo copy of the DS 3025 at the time of the medical exam, the original will be sealed. It was a pain for me and costly to have it done here :(

This is very true. You do not have to get any vaccinations as a K-1, but then you have to see a civil surgeon in the US and many of them will insist on a whole new medical and high fees. It is best as a K-1 to get all your vaccinations completed and recorded onto the DS-3025 at the time of your medical, if it is possible for you to do so. That way you only need to send in a copy of your DS-3025 when you file for AOS and skip the civil surgeon.

The ones required for AOS are at least 1 MMR, one Tdap or TD, and varicella or a VH marked for it meaning you already had the chicken pox. A flu shot is only required during flu season. The rest will most likely be marked as not required or age inappropriate. If you have those 3 or 4, even if your DS-3025 is marked as incomplete, may be eligible for blanket waiver, you can still skip the civil surgeon and send a copy of your DS-3025, stating all your vaccinations are up to date.

Here is a good post about vaccinations, the DS-3025 and filing for AOS from a K-1: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/335754-ds-3025-complete-or-not/page__p__4971318#entry4971318
