Hello,

I'm a US citizen & my wife & step daughter came to USA on CR1/CR2 in Oct 2010. They received a conditional 2 years Green Card which expires in Oct 2012. After reading some notes I found out that we need to apply for the Removal of Condition within 90 days of the expiry date, which would be starting Aug 2012. We have plans to travel to home country (Pakistan) for summer vacation visiting the family during June-July-August of this year 2012. My family plans to stay there from June 15 to Aug 30th. Please advise:

(1) Since CR1/CR2 is a conditional Green Card, still needing to have the condition removed, is it advisable to travel outside the US for 2+ months while we are still in the 2 year conditional period?

(2) Do most people travel during this time who are in this situation?

(3) If travel, is there any danger of any issues to be encoutered at the port of entry when coming back to US?

(4) Is there any danger of any issues while we file for removal of conditional after a travel has been made?

I greatly appreciate your detailed responses/experiences.

July 26, 2011: Received NOA2 via text/email!!!
July 30, 2011: Received NOA2 hardcopy in mail
August 8, 2011: NVC received file
September 1, 2011: NVC case number assigned
September 2, 2011: AOS invoice received, OPTIN email for EP sent
September 7, 2011: Paid AOS bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 9, 2011)
September 8, 2011: OPTIN email accepted, GZO number assigned
September 10, 2011: Emailed AOS package
September 12, 2011: IV bill invoiced
September 13, 2011: Paid IV bill (payment portal showed PAID on September 14, 2011)
September 14, 2011: Emailed IV package
October 3, 2011: Emailed checklist response (checklist generated due to typo on Form DS-230)
October 6, 2011: Case complete at NVC
November 10, 2011: Interview - APPROVED!!!
December 7, 2011: POE - Sea-Tac Airport

September 17, 2013: Mailed I-751 to CSC

September 23, 2013: Received NOA1 in mail (receipt date September 19th)

October 16, 2013: Biometrics Appointment

January 28, 2014: Production of new Green Card ordered

February 3, 2014: New Green Card received; done with USCIS until fall of 2023*

December 18, 2023:  Filed I-90 to renew Green Card

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

No issues there. File ROC when you return. You'll be fine to travel as proposed.

10.26.2010 - Text/email received - AP approved!
10.28.2010 - Biometrics appointment received, dated 10/22 - set for 11/19 @ 3:00 PM
11.01.2010 - Successful biometrics walk-in @ 9:45 AM; EAD card sent for production text/email @ 2:47 PM! I-485 case status now available online.
