You guys can go ahead with CR-1 route for spouse visa. It may take 8-10 months to complete the process ( from beginning to interview ) if everything was done in proper manner.

Read the guides here for CR-1 process: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1

I live in India and I will be marrying a US Citizen very soon. We would like to know which type of visa we need to apply for me to go to the US at the earliest. What are the steps to be followed and is there anything we can do to start off this process before we get married.

There's nothing you can do to start off the process before actually getting married. You need to be married at the time of filing the CR-1. You will need to fill out the I-130, G-325, and G-325A forms and send 'em in along with proof of marriage - marriage certificate, wedding pics, etc.

Keep in mind, the CR-1 takes anywhere from 9 months to a year before you'll finally be able to head out.

Read up extensively about it http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/CR1_Visa

Please follow the other posts and also one more thing...

Ask US Citizen spouse to get "No Objection certificate" from Embassy..

It will have US Citizen name,DOB,passport number, Indian Citizen name, DOB, father's name, address..

It will help you out big time during visa processing.... some of the marriage registrar are also asking for the certificate.

Good luck
