obtaining birth certificate and police certificate from China while no longer a Chinese citizen

I'm in the processing of submitting the civil documents to the NVC. I was born in China, moved to Canada 12 years ago and have become a Canadian citizen in 2004. As a result, I lost my Chinese citizenship (China does not recognize dual nationality.). I no longer have my Hukou as the required document/ID in order to obtain a birth certificate and a police clearance.

I have a notarized copy of a police clearance from 13 years when I applied for immigrating to Canada, which apparently can't be used since it's too old. (I've received the police certificate from Canada, so that's done)

I guess all I can do now is to write a statement to NVC explaining why I am unable to obtain those documents.

Has anyone had any experience that you wouldn't mind sharing with me?

Thanks. I think it's more for Chinese nationals that live aboard, I am no longer a Chinese national, thus, I don't have any valid Chinese ID to prove my identity.

What if a document is not available?

If the documents needed above are not available you can instead give USCIS the following secondary evidence. However, USCIS may request in writing that you obtain a statement from the appropriate civil authority certifying that the needed document is not available. Any evidence submitted must contain enough information, such as a birth date, to establish the event you are trying to prove.

Uhm - you submitted something to Canada, to become a Canadien Resident, ages past, yes?

Can find that set, with 'that' Canadien office, ask for photocopy or certified photocopy?
