can you tell me what am I to do once my PD becomes current? Because my last action was to submit Packet 3 which was 8 months back and I never heard anything from NVC then on. I am afraid because I read that if there is no correspondence for a year, the visa application is terminated..

my suspicion for the no reply/action from NVC after I sent packet 3 is because my PD is not current, is it correct?

I think you're correct. Once you have done everything that NVC has asked of you and you are now waiting on them to take action then your application can't be terminated. I definitely know that you won't have to repay any fees if you have submitted EVERYTHING that packet 3 asked for. What you may have to get redone is your police record and get 2011 tax returns/tax transcript from your sponsor(s).

Once your current you're going to get a packet 4 email From NVC. If you think that you're going to be current by a months time, if you want, you can get your police records done. You cannot do a medical without getting packet 4 because the doctor has to see the evidence from NVC. What you can do is find out what shots you may need and get them done at your local clinic (may be cheaper). That way there is no hold up and you can get your interview done and immigrate asap.

Again, its because your PD is not current yet and no visa is available for you to receive. Once your PD is current for processing. You will receive a notice from NVC to submit the other necessary documents they will need for your petition to be process. Do some preparation now with some of your documents since your PD might be current by next year, but be aware that some of the additional documents that will be requested might need to be on the current year or certain documents might have expiration dates. Be prepared but do not do it too early. Just check you PD on those sites now and then....and just follow some of the VJ members here with the same category of FB4. Your petition is only considered abandoned if the request final documents, plus the medical and interview appointments were ignored on a certain amount of date for processing. There is usually a written warning on the final checklist of documents that are needed for submission that will be sent to you. You are given an ample time for submission.
