what's the purpose of "case staus updates"?

CASE STATUS UPDATES......what's the point? Mine does not work, and from the sounds of many other people, it doesn't work most of the time....Just a little frustrated. We are in 2012, and a federal government agency cannot fix an automated system? Really......? Sorry, just venting a little....

Truth?

To provide the minimal satisfaction to some congress people, they are easy to please. They only want votes.

Congress made a requirement that USCIS provide an automated system to check your case status. The law did not require any standards of accuracy, hence the result. USCIS is a government agency and has no competition for the business, you cannot go somewhere else, to FedEx visa Service for example. This is what happens when the government controls something unilaterally. Keep that in mond regarding health care also. The congress people were able to say "we did something, vote for us" and USCIS makes up a website that barely functions. If any of us performed in our jobs that way, we would be fired.

At least one of the Presidential Candidates, Newt Gingrich, has proposed turning this process over to private contractors to compete for the business. If THAT happened the petitions would get processed in a 2-3 weeks maximum, the tracking number would tell you exactly the status and the fee would be $1500 or so (for addl people, technology and PROFIT for the company). Maybe more. Everyone says Newt Gingrich is an idiot for proposing that.

Why do you say it is not working? What is happening because mine worked just fine?

It is about 65% accurate and updated. Our I-129f case status says "intial review" no "touches" yet.

Alla takes the citizenship oath in 14 days.

If any of us here performed in our jobs at 65% we would be fired. A score of 65% on a math test is failing. If data we used was guaranteed to be 65% accurate we would throw it out. If your computer froze up 65% of the time you would buy a new one. If your car started 65% of the time you would tow it to the junkyard.

We all wish that we knew more and it is a hard thing waiting and wondering if anything is happening as we wait for our loved ones to finally be with us full time but this is the Federal Government hows motto is "hurry up and wait" oh yes i forgot except if you owe taxes.

Background

On June 25, President Obama announced that in the next 90 days USCIS would launch a vastly improved USCIS.gov public website to help customers navigate the immigration system and remain up-to-date regarding their case status. USCIS has committed to delivering on this promise by incorporating both internal and external stakeholder feedback.

Your Case Status and Processing Times

Based on feedback we received from focus groups, usability tests and public surveys, the redesigned USCIS.gov website enhances our customer service tools and makes them more accessible. All of the tools are now available directly from the homepage.

On the old USCIS website, ‘Case Status Online’ provided users with their case status information via the web. It allowed customers to create an account to receive automated emails when their cases were updated. Processing times of local offices and service centers were also available before the redesign, but these times were only displayed in a table on a different page of the site.

On the redesigned USCIS.gov website, ‘My Case Status’ replaces ‘Case Status Online’ and adds a new option for customers to receive alerts through text messages sent to their mobile phones.

So, what happened to this? If the system doesn't work, it doesn't sound like they are listening to President Obama's directive....

And Gitmo will be closed one year from when he takes office. It has been three years since congrewss has passed an approved budget (required by law)

The system "works". It works within the parameters required, which is a very low threshold.

Our case is listed. I have not heard of cases not being listed, that is nt the problem. The problem is that they are frequently not updated to actual current status, that will remain to be seen. If it isupdated correctly for you, then you are one of the 2/3 that it "works for"

Good news? It is not official in any way. So even if they do not update your case on this system you still get approved and the process still moves forward. This system has no "function" in the process.

Mines worked perfectly. I got the text msg first. three minutes later I recieved the email. Then I went to check the status online and it was updated. Luck? But on the other hand, I only recieved a text msg for my NOA1. No hard copy...
