Hi everyone... waiting to receive my list of documents from American embassy in Brussels.

Only thing that really bothers me is that affidavit of support : my US fiance just start his job one month ago. He's living with his mom which has monthly retirement pay.

I got my own savings of around € 60K plus a group/health insurance that could be converted if need for around € 70K.

Do you think this will be sufficient for the affidavit of support ?

This is really getting to my nerves and bothering me a lot.

Thanks to ease my suffering...

I agree with the charlie471963 comments. Here are 2012 poverty giudelines. If the sponsor cannot meet the appropriate poverty guideline, consider getting a co-sponsor. The sponsor must be able to show sufficient income or financial resources to assure that the alien (you) will not become a public charge while in the United States. Your assets are not relevant for Form I-134.

This is a very frequently discussed topic, review recent threads for more information.

Here is the general guideline:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#8

Proof of Financial Support and Affidavit of Support Forms

During the visa interview, applicants will be required to present evidence to the Consular Officer that they will not become a public charge in the U.S. You may present evidence that you are able to financially support yourself or that your U.S. citizen fiancé(e) is able to provide support. The Consular Officer may request that a Form I-134, Affidavit of Support be submitted by the U.S. citizen fiancé(e).

The U.S. citizen fiancé(e) will need to submit Form I-864 to USCIS with the application for adjustment of status to that of legal permanent resident following the marriage.

Also see paragraph 3 of 134 instructions.

He lives with his mom, but are either one of them an actual dependent of the other? Does one of them claim the other on their taxes? If not, his mother is not counted in his household size. Household size is not about who lives with you. If he has no other dependents, then his household size would just be 2, himself and you. For 2 people he needs to be making at least $18,912 a year. Poverty guidelines: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

Contact the consulate where you will interview and ask if your savings could count. Some allow this, but most do not. Check first.

How Do I Count Household Size?

Your household size includes yourself and the following individuals, no matter where they live: any spouse, any dependent children under the age of 21, any other dependents listed on your most recent Federal income tax return, all persons being sponsored in this affidavit of support, and any immigrants previously sponsored with a Form I-864 or Form I-864 EZ affidavit of support whom you are still obligated to support.
