Petitioner/Beneficiary Distinction?

Not sure if this is feasible or not, but just wanted to throw out the idea...

When setting up one's profile, would it be possible to include whether they're the beneficiary or petitioner of the visa? It would probably double the drop-down list (e.g. K-1 (Petitioner), K-1 (Beneficiary), but it may also help funnel questions or address them differently based on who's inquiring.

May just a single drop down for that in addition to the other drop downs . I think the reason for us not having it before was that we saw the process as a team effort so we did not hold the distinction between the two people. It is an interesting suggestion though. Feedback from others welcome.

I think it would be helpful. There may be an issue in some cases where both members of the couple use one account.

Agree with both sentences here, si man. Probably not feasible to contact all of those account-holders (assuming that they could be identified) to get them to specify, no man.

It's most helpful when people who have shared accounts identify themselves and their situation clearly in posts, see man. I especially appreciate one who either opens or closes posts with "It's V----- here from Russia," da man.

Well the option is there for the timeline so you could always click on that to see who is who based on the "my wife/she/he/my husband" descriptions.. but honestly I don't see how it matters who is asking the question.

I agree that sometimes when people post a question they forget we can't SEE who they are and they type vague questions like "what documents do I need to file for AOS" and if they're the USC the answer is very different to if they're the immigrant... but like others have said sometimes multiple people use the same log-on (which I don't think should be allowed 'cause sometimes it's REALLY confusing to read back-posts where they talk about leaving their home country and then another post about how they hope their fiancee/spouse will enjoy living here in the US)...

It couldn't hurt to have the option there if you WANT to pick it... but not make it mandatory.

**Edit - one possible "con" would be people not listening to some advice say like about life here in the US and how taxes work and what not because they believe the immigrant doesn't know squat... so perhaps you could also have the option to add "living in the US since 2009" or something so people realise you've been here a while or what not (sometimes people lose logon info so the "joined" date doesn't reflect their situation)

True, but that would also assume the timeline is filled out and/or there are some identifying information to determine who's posting. Sometimes, it's easy to distinguish the petitioner from the beneficiary, but other times, it's not.

Absolutely agree. It shouldn't be mandatory, but it would be great to have as an option. Same way one doesn't have to include their country or any other identifying features -- it's not mandatory, but it definitely helps the other VJ members help that person more efficiently.

The problem is, when people fail to enter their country, it apparently defaults to "Armenia" -- and that up-screws the actual Armenia members, sigh man.

Oh weird, I didn't realize it defaulted to a country if you don't enter one. Hmm, I wonder how many people who have Armenia as the country actually are from that country or petitioning on the behalf of someone from Armenia. Armenians are great people, btw.

are you the petitioner or the beneficiary? the form yer filling out is specific to 'voice'.
