Original birth certificates not returned after the interview

Hi VJ members,

My mother went for an interview at the consulate in Haiti.everything went well,she was approved(thank God) but even though she specifically asked she was not given her original birth certificate or mine.she was only given the copies.what should I do? Any advice?

Grrrrr...the Colombian Govt kept my original birth certificate, I hope you get yours back! I always thought the US Govt could/would return the originals to you if I remember and read right. hmmmm, maybe somebody else knows better!

Have heard folks requesting the return of original documents. But can't you just ask the relevant authority or institution to issue you one for your mother and the other for you? You would pay for those copies of course

I could request new ones but it would take time & money. I was thinking about emailing the embassy & see if they can give them to my mom when she goes to pick up her visa.

The originals stay with the record so that they can be verified if necessary.

They did not give my husband his original documents the same day after the interview, they only gave copies. The day of the appointment to pick up his visa they gave him all his original documents along with his passport and visa.

Mytruelove you were right. The originals were returned with the passport..what a relief
