In this day and age, it seems pointless to write letters or even emails. All of my communication with my girlfriend has been through QQ instant messages. And soon to be video chats. Sometimes we talk on the phone but that is using phone cards, so no proof there.

My family is becoming concerned about evidence and is telling me to write letters. By the time I get a letter back, we will have sent each other thousands of QQ messages. The whole thing just seems silly. They also suggest getting a long distance phone plan to accrue more evidence. Pretty sure that will cost a lot. I am low income (ugh another obstacle I have to worry about). Do long distance plans record numbers and length of calls? My phone bills just list the number of minutes or calls I made. No other information.

I sent her an ecard before. but holiday/birthday cards sound great! Thanks. I probably should have mentioned this earlier. But I will be marrying her in China. So going for the I-130 route. I was thinking dozens/hundreds of pictures and dozens/hundreds of pages of QQ messages would be enough as proof.

that's proof of communication, you betcha,

but for a CR-1 visa, you need to show other stuff as well,

for the 'bonafide marriage' and 'bonafide relationship' list.

Here's what I prepped, for my I-130:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218775&st=0&p=3324240&hl=Rusticentry3324240

suggest when you get back stateside after the marriage, you (at least) get a coupla months worth of utility bills in both names.

Heck even a netflix subscription with monthly statment in both names beats nothing, yes?

I don't really have much to my name. I am definitely going to need co-sponsors. The best I could probably do is send her a little money. Is it possible to open some sort of joint bank account in China so I can directly transfer money into there? I know there are some banks that have locations in US and China. Maybe I should research that.

One easy suggestion to send money is to use Moneygram. They are located at many Walmarts now, and your receipt will show the recipient's name and address on it as well as yours. You could send $100 and they will charge you $11 for a 3 day service. There are many locations listed in China as a pick-up location. Just find the one closest to your fiancee's residence. She will only need identification to get it. Quick, convienent, but not the cheapest!

I will look at moneygram thanks.

For the emails/QQ chat logs, will they care who prints it out? My gf does not have as much free time as me so I figured I could prepare the chat logs and emails, but that means everything will be in my timezone, and for the emails it will be my account name showing up first. Or they just care about the content?

Hope this is not bothersome, but I keep on thinking of new questions to ask.

I just tried copying all the messages onto word. its already 600 pages of messages. Wow. In a few months from now the chat log will easily breach 1000 pages. I am guessing I should only copy the most important messages? I am using Word 2007 everything is size 8 font, and the default spacing is single spaced with 10 points after each line. Removing the spacing will make it 300 pages.

Is there a format I should follow for the chats? Emails if applicable. Is there a preferred font size, spacing, etc. sometimes we send each other pictures in the chat, copy those too? Should I be organizing the chats too? Like divide them into months and highlight the most important messages? I get the feeling I am overthinking this.

I was thinking I should have the videochat logs in their own separate print outs too. So they do not get lost in the messages.

well, there is page size, then there is 'printed page size' as well.

So if you gots a printer with the right printer driver, can print 2 to 4 'pages' per page,

and if'n you gots a fancy duplex printer (or access to same) you can make the pile double sided ;)

Just a thought.

won't that be awfully small and impossible to read? in your topic you said.

I printed out a chat log history and the chat logs - I pared it back to 2 inches o chat logs, the history file was about 22 pages. (single line per day) If I am reading that correctly, you printed everything out, 2 inches thick sounds like hundreds of pages. and then you took the chat log history is just the dates of every day you chatted?

I am looking through the messages, there are a lot of messages that are brief and something along the lines of "haha" And some repetitive stuff like asking about each other's day, what we ate, and good morning/good night. Should I be filtering out the less meaningful messages similar to those I mentioned? Looks like most of the emoticons do not paste onto word so some of the messages are blank, I am guessing I should delete those, or just make a little note that the blank messages are emoticons that did not print?

have you guys traveled together? Do you have hotel receipts, air plane ticket stubs? You could try to get call using skype because it records phone numbers and stuff. For the previous calls, you could have your wife get her phone record from china mobile because it shows the incoming call history.

The last time I used money gram was couple of months ago and it was 9 dollars and took 10 minutes for the other party to receive it.

Hm there is no edit function? Rather than making a second topic, I was reading another thread about red flags and I have some of them. Low income, short relationship, it will be one trip maybe a second one before interview if possible, and introduced by relatives since my family and her family are lifelong friends. Did not apply yet, I only added IR-1 in profile so it is easier for people to give more specific advice.

What happens if you get rejected? Can you reapply? Because by the second application surely I will have much more evidence of bona fide relationship/marriage.
