My company is sponsoring me for a green card and the whole process is in the beginning stages. I've been working with work permit the last 5 and half years (getting close to the end, I know) and it was one of my first real jobs. I even did my internship for at the company (which is one of the reasons they hired me and got me work permit). I understand that any experience that I gained while working for the company cannot be used for the PERM process, but I'm curious if the internship is acceptable even if it was for the same company? thank you in advance.

I work for a non profit, so they don't have a lawyer on their pay roll who takes care immigration issues. They found a lawyer who is doing it for free, but getting information is slow (i guess you get what you pay for). I received and email that stated: "To answer your question, we can use an internship to cover special skills, but we cannot use any work with the name of the company (under PERM rules)." The answer left me unclear if it's acceptable or not as internship wasn't work.
