How do you add friends?

Hello, everyone!

I'm still very new to this site, but am having some difficulty figuring things out (some are more intuitive than others). Can someone please enlighten me regarding how to add friends? I've corresponded with some others who are awaiting fiance visas from Ukraine, and who have submitted requests about the same time we did, but don't know how to make them "friends" on this site.

Thanks, and good luck to you all!

Scott

Hi Scott,

Welcome to Visa Journey :) . You should be able to 'add friends' now. For security purposes, Visa Journey is set up so that you do not have access to the 'add friends' function until after you have made one post to the forums. Since this is your first post, it counts, and the software will now allow you access to more of the membership options.

To add a friend you can click on any of the members names in the left hand column beside their posts in the forums, or find them listed in the membership list. When you click on their name, their VJ Profile opens up. There will be a listing of options right beneath their photograph which includes as the first one 'Add Me as a Friend". Click on that and it will transfer their photo and name to your 'friends' list'.

I hope this helps. Good luck on your Visa Journey.

Thank you for your help. Someone sent me a message, and I tried to reply but I get a message that I can't reply until tomorrow (24 hours from now). Why is this restricted and is there a way to remove the restriction?

Thanks, again.

Did you try to send the message before or after you made your first post?

There is another 'security' feature that prevents a new member from sending more than, I think, 3 PMs before they make an actual post in the forums. This was again set in place as a security measure as we would have spammers join the site, then send hundreds of our members solicitation type of PMs and due to security restrictions, only site administration could flag them as spam. The current set up allows all of the moderation team to flag such spammers.

I don't know if there is a 'delay' function on using the PM feature after making your first post, although there may be. Unfortunately, because of the need to keep our membership safe from such spam messages we won't be removing the PM restriction. I can certainly check with Administration to see if there is a delay on activating the unlimited PM function or if it activates once you have made a post in the forums.

For new members still trying to figure the add friends feature out, click the link krikit provided above. It links to a topic where Kathryn explains the restrictions and how to actually add a friend, and some of the icon/button issues are discussed too.
