Just wanted to share some info. Have anyone here applied for a Vietnam tourist visa in the Consulate General in Houston recently? What is your experience? I just wanted to tell you that it was a ripoff to work with people overthere. I and my uncle-in-law (Caucasian male) are gonna go to Vietnam for a short vacation next month. I called in and asked how much the short-term visa is. An employee told me it was 70 for 1 month, 100 for 3 months with multiple entries. So I told my uncle to go in person and apply for it. You know what? He was told it is 130 for 3 months with multiple entries. My uncle asked them why you told my nephew (Vietnamese LPR) on the phone that it is 100? He said it is difference and like "take it or leave it." What a greedy corrupt band of people... I just can't believe it, what a shame.

the difference was likely processing fees.. the people working in these offices can be quite indifferent and unprofessional. I called the DC office and got different prices before...

You can get Visa on Arrival at the airport. It'd take less than 15 mins to get it. First you'd need to apply for the approval and bring the approval letter with you. I use this service every time and have no problem. The total cost around $40 for a single entry. I don't think it'd cost much more than that for multiple entries. See the link below. These people are very professional and helpful too. Any questions, you can ask me.

I paid 40 or 60 bucks from the Vietnamese travel agent for my tourist Visa.

I've been ripped off several times wih the VN DC consulate. Paid for a 3 Month multiple and was sent a 1 Month Single. They pocketed the extra money on both occasions. Started using the SF and Houston consulate with no problems.

There is a surcharge for Non-VK, so that is the reason your non-Viet was quoted a different price. Is it fair, no, but just pay it and move on.

Oh wow I am very surprised to hear that. I have always used the Vietnam Embassy in DC and they always gave me what I paid for. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe next time I can avoid them

Haha maybe I can use this on top of my other excuses NOT to go back to VN to pick up my fiancee. I have been trying to convince her to fly alone since there are so many Viet Kieu on the airplanes anyways :innocent:

Hey, that excuse won't last for long. Once we are married we become VK-in-Laws!!

VK qualify for a reduced price Visa that has a 5-Year validity, a real good deal. Most of my VK co-workers have taken advantage of this. The good part of this program is that it also applies to spouses of VK, which means US !

How's you case coming along?? Has Thu recovered??

She will be fine. If Mine can make it here by herself I feel anyone can.
